Few shows are ever guaranteed a future on the small screen unless they're lucky enough to score multi-season renewals a la The Big Bang Theory and This Is Us. Fans often have to cross their fingers and hope that their favorite shows will be brought back for another batch of episodes. Well, Superstore fans can stop crossing their fingers. NBC has officially renewed Superstore for a fourth season.

Superstore will be back for at least one more season, and fans don't have to worry about a shortage of episodes. Season 4 will run for 22 episodes, which matches the order for Season 3. Season 2 was slightly shorter with 21 episodes, and Season 1 ran for only 11 episodes. The renewal and episode count alone are signs that NBC seems to have a lot of faith in the series in its current third season.

All things considered, the renewal and 22-episode count don't come as a huge surprise, given Superstore's performance in the ratings. While not exactly on the level of The Big Bang Theory or Will and Grace, Superstore has managed to grow its ratings by 6% over the past year in the 18-49 age demographic, hitting an average 1.7 rating. On the viewership end, Superstore has experienced a bump of 3% for an average of 5.19 million viewers.

Interestingly, Superstore is also a strong performer in post-live viewing. The 1.7 rating is boosted all the way up to a 2.9 rating in the 18-49 demo when non-linear viewership in the span of 35 days can be calculated. Superstore can boast its place as NBC's #1 comedy across digital platforms in 2017, with data coming from Hulu, Video On Demand, and the NBC App. Basically, even if Superstore isn't smashing ratings and viewership records on a weekly basis, it has managed to grow from year to year, and that's not something that all shows can do.

NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke referred to Superstore as "one of our signature NBC comedies," and NBC Scripted Programming Co-President Tracey Pakosta has stated that the show is "a source of pride for the comedy team at NBC." If Superstore continues to deliver in the ratings and the comedic material, it could have a long life on NBC.
