Disney's Muppet Babies Are As Fun And Funny As Ever In Exclusive Reboot Clip

There was a time during the 1980s and early '90s when our dreams were made true by a group of animated cutie pies called the Muppet Babies, who also did the same for their own dreams. Thanks to Disney's upcoming reimagining, the beloved characters are returning to our lives with a renewed focus on making kids' lives as imaginative as possible. In the exclusive clip below from the series premiere, you can find Miss Piggy, Animal, Fozzie and more showing off that they're just as playful and age-appropriately hilarious as they've always been. Even if they sound a little different.

Admittedly, the jokes aren't the most intricate or high-brow, but I'm not sure why anyone would be watching Muppet Babies for such things. We're watching to see some fantastically goofy puns and wordplay, as well as to see Fozzie and Gonzo get splattered by things. No giant tomatoes got thrown the bear comedian's way, but Gonzo did take a giant egg to the head. (That doesn't make him an egghead, though, since that's probably a distinction for Scooter.)

Am I ashamed of myself for laughing out loud when Miss Piggy said that pigs don't fly? Of course not. Am I ashamed of myself for then telling my wife and sharing a laugh with her about it? Nope! I'm slightly self-conscious about not having told my Disney Junior-aged daughter about it first, but she found out eventually, so I don't want to hear any griping from Statler and Waldorf.

Beyond the silly jokes, this Muppet Babies clip is noteworthy because it shows off some of the new show's nifty animation methods. If something feels particularly distinct about it, that's because the creative team developed an animation technique they refer to as "Jiggle Tech" to make the CGI iterations look and move like their real-life puppet origins from The Muppets Take Manhattan. Even the ear flapping.

The new Muppet Babies will feature a brand new Muppet named Summer the Penguin, voiced by Loud House's Jessica DiCicco. She can be seen in the above video, though not for very long. It was also recently announced that Crazy Ex-Girlfriend star and co-creator Rachel Bloom is part of the cast as a big dragon.

Just close your eyes and make believe, and it'll be time to watch Muppet Babies' series premiere on Disney Channel on Friday, March 23, at 10:00 a.m. ET. While waiting, don't forget about that live-action Muppets reboot that's in development, and head to our midseason premiere schedule to see everything else that's on the way. And to hear what the new version of the theme song sounds like, jump over to the next page.

Check out the new Muppet Babies theme song below, as performed by Hamilton's Renée Elise Goldsberry.

Now just try getting that out of your head for the rest of the day. It's impossible.
