How Michael C. Hall Would Feel About A Dexter Revival

Rumors of a Dexter revival seem to spring up every now and again, and even when they don't, Michael C. Hall often has to address the question. Hall, who is about to appear back in front of audiences in the Netflix original series Safe, recently admitted that a revival of his most known series could happen, although it couldn't be just any revival. Here's what he had to say about the prospect of a revival:

Maybe. It's a possibility given how the show ended that we could revisit Dexter. I have just yet to, for my part, imagine or hear someone else's idea that makes it feel worth doing. But never say never.

"Never say never" is definitely a popular stance to take. More and more shows no one thought would make a comeback continue to do so. That said, Michael C. Hall doesn't seem all that interested in reviving Dexter at the moment. Hall expressed that's mainly due to the fact that he hasn't heard an idea enticing enough to bring Dexter Morgan out of the wilderness and back into the spotlight, which is a totally valid reason few fans should be upset with. Basically, if the Bay Harbor Butcher is coming out of retirement, there better be a damn good reason for him to do so.

Michael C. Hall's response might have put another nail in the coffin towards the discussion of a Dexter revival any time soon, although the actor told Variety he knows the question will come his way again. Hall is well aware that his role as Dexter will be what he's most known for in acting, and that he'll likely be fielding questions about the show right up until the day he dies:

I try not to take it all too seriously. I realize Dexter will be in the first paragraph of my obituary if one is written, maybe the first sentence, but that's fine.

Hall's acceptance of Dexter's impact on his career likely came from his work following the show's conclusion, which he referred to as a "Dexorcism." Hall's roles in Safe and other work that followed the show's end in 2013 have been eclectic and a decent mix of characters distinct from the performance he gave as Dexter Morgan. Perhaps enough time in different roles will sway Hall to actively want to revisit his character somewhere down the road in a new adventure, but if five years isn't enough time, who knows if Dexter will ever return?

Dexter fans who miss the series can currently binge the entire show on Netflix. As for Michael C. Hall's new Netflix series Safe, that's expected to land on the platform sometime in 2018.
