The First Wives Club is coming to a small screen near you. The Paramount Network has given a TV adaptation of the 1996 movie the green light. The news means the show will fly past the pilot stage. Here is everything we know about the First Wives Club TV show, so far.

The show has been ordered straight-to-series, which means a full season is headed our way. Deadline shared the news of the series' pickup. The first season of First Wives Club will consist of ten, half-hour episodes. The series features some impressive behind-the-scenes power. Tracy Oliver, who co-wrote the hit 2017 comedy Girls Trip, is slated to write and executive produce the TV show. Production on the First Wives Club is set to begin this summer in New York City. The series will be filmed and set there.

The show will follow a similar premise to the original film. The First Wives Club movie came out in 1996 and starred Diane Keaton, Bette Midler, and Goldie Hawn. The story followed three college friends who reunite following the death of another friend. Each member of the trio is divorced because their husbands left them for younger women. After commiserating, the women decide it is time to get even with their exes.

The First Wives Club joins a slew of popular films that have been brought to television. Among the movie-to-TV adaptations currently airing are FX's Fargo and HBO's Westworld. While it has gotten a lot of attention in recent years, turning movies into TV shows is not a new phenomenon. Over 20 years ago, the 1992 film Buffy the Vampire Slayer was turned into the long-running 1997 TV series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer starring Sarah Michelle Gellar. While the trend of movie-to-TV adaptations will continue with The First Wives Club, it is not the only one currently in the works.

A TV series based on the popular Bad Boys franchise has been given a title, LA's Finest, and a pilot order. The series starring Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba is expected to be among those picked up by CBS for its 2018-2019 season. The Bad Boys TV show will be a bit different than The First Wives Club because it is a spinoff, which will feature one of the characters from the original films as its lead.

The First Wives Club movie was not based on an original screenplay. It was an adaptation of Olivia Goldsmith's novel of the same name. Since movies have a storied history being based upon books, it makes sense that film itself would be the source of similar inspiration.

The First Wives Club TV show is slated to premiere in summer 2019 on the Paramount Network. As for what else is coming up on TV in general, check out our guides to TV's midseason and summer premieres.
