Younger Renewed For Season 6 At TV Land

The last several weeks have been something of a bloodbath when it comes to television as networks large and small cancelled series. After some shocking cancellations on unexpected networks, no show really felt safe from getting the axe, and so there have been many nervous TV fans awaiting news of the future for their favorites. Fortunately for Younger viewers, there's no longer any need to worry. Younger has already been renewed for a sixth season on TV Land.

The very good news comes shortly before the fifth season kicks off. The Season 5 premiere of Younger was scheduled for June 5; who could have guessed that fans would get a double dose of goodness with the news of a renewal the day before the premiere of a new season? Whatever happens in Season 5, viewers can just go along for the ride without the stress of a potential cancellation. Even if the fifth season ends on a killer cliffhanger bound to have viewers on the very edges of their seats, they can at least be a little chilled out about the fact that the cliffhanger will have the chance for resolution.

All things considered, the renewal of Younger isn't a huge surprise, although it does make for welcome news. The Sutton Foster-starring dramedy has arguably become the show that TV Land is most known for, and it has received praise from critics and audiences alike over the four seasons that have aired so far. TV Land evidently has faith that the show will continue to be a critical and popular hit given the renewal ahead of Season 5. TV Land president Kevin Kay stated that Younger is a series that "exemplifies romantic comedy at its best," according to THR. Sutton Foster will remain on board as star of the series.

For a while, it seemed possible that Younger would wind up on a different home than TV Land. Viacom owns CMT and Paramount Network as well as TV Land, and a number of shows have made the switch from TV Land to Paramount. It was difficult not to wonder if Younger would be the next to end up on Paramount rather than sticking on its home network. The renewal indicates that Younger will live on where it has aired all along. Younger and Teachers are the only two shows left on TV Land, and TV Land is reportedly no longer interested in purchasing scripted original series. Heathers is once again in limbo.

For now, fans can just cross their fingers that Younger will enjoy a long life on the network. Tune in to TV Land on Tuesday, June 5 at 10 p.m. ET to catch the Season 5 premiere of Younger.
