Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl Got A Response From James Corden About 'Uncomfortable' Carpool Karaoke

Dave Grohl The Late Late Show With James Corden CBS

James Corden's Carpool Karaoke segment on The Late Late Show has been popular enough with audiences to get its own spinoff series, but Foo Fighters' frontman Dave Grohl hinted last year the skit may not be that popular with the guests. Grohl and the rest of the Foo Fighters described the experience as overly long and uncomfortable in an interview that made the whole thing sound far less fun than it looked on television. Grohl recently revealed Corden reached out to him not long after those comments circulated around the web, and said the host was not too happy:

I got a fucking text from him [the next day]," [James] was like, 'What the fuck, dude?' I was like, 'Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god!'

James Corden was not happy with Dave Grohl and the rest of the Foo Fighters' comments regarding Carpool Karaoke, as the band painted the segment in a bad light. Few may blame The Late Late Show host for being upset, as the band's comments may have potentially convinced other celebrities to steer clear of any invitations to appear in the segment. Grohl said he was already regretting his comments when media outlets began to run with the quotes, and told The Sun he was upset because they had a better time than the news headlines may have shown.

In Dave Grohl's defense, his comments were not nearly as insulting as Foo Fighters' guitarist Pat Smear, who was the one quoted in calling the process too long. Grohl, who had said James Corden was a nice guy and certainly a fan of the band's music in the original interview, was more or less just uncomfortable singing the band's songs in such an intimate setting:

I had to text him back and was like, 'No dude, that's not what we meant. What we were trying to say was it was uncomfortable to sit in a car and try to sing our own songs. If we were singing Queen songs or Led Zeppelin songs or Beatles songs, it would have been fine. But to sit there and sing your own songs . . . we felt weird about it. I don't drive around Los Angeles singing to my own songs.

Luckily, James Corden found it in his heart to forgive Dave Grohl for the comments and recently had the singer back on The Late Late Show when it was filming in London. Additionally, the Foo Fighters' comments haven't appeared to hurt Carpool Karaoke pull in talent, as the segment recently featured Beatles legend Paul McCartney in its latest installment. Of course, should McCartney come out and make disparaging remarks about the comment, then the crew might have to worry!

The Late Late Show With James Corden airs weeknights on CBS at 12:37 a.m. ET. For some information on some upcoming television shows set to premiere this summer, head on over to our summer premiere guide.
