Infinity War's The Russo Brothers Are Creating A New Comic Series For TBS

Superhero projects are all the rage nowadays, with massively popular movies and TV series alike. TBS may be getting into the superhero game next, although not with the type of superheroes audiences are used to. The potential series is based on the Valiant Entertainment comic characters Quantum and Woody, and they're not exactly the types of heroes that would give Batman or Iron Man a run for their money in the superhero biz. Here's what we know.

A Quantum And Woody series is currently in the early stages of development at TBS, according to Deadline, with Avengers: Infinity War directors Anthony and Joe Russo attached as executive producers. The Russo brothers clearly know what it takes to create a comic-based project that finds a big audience, and they could be the perfect people to adapt the Valiant characters to the small screen. Ant-Man and the Wasp writers Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari are on board to pen the pilot. If all goes well, Quantum and Woody could kick off a franchise. Still, at this point, there's no saying if the show will score a series order and hit the airwaves.

News first broke of a potential series following Quantum and Woody back in March 2017, with the Russo brothers attached and Ant-Man writers on board but no network attached. More than a year passed following the announcement of the potential series, and it was beginning to feel like it was never going to happen. Now it seems that it was just a matter of time. TBS evidently hasn't yet ordered even a pilot, so we shouldn't start planning on Quantum and Woody 100% hitting the airwaves. Still, the odds have never been better.

A big question is who would bring Quantum and Woody to life for the TBS show, should it go to series. In August 2017, Joel McHale of Community fame (who recently made a big move to Netflix) was reportedly in talks to play Woody Henderson in the series. No announcement came about who would play Quantum, and there's no news at this point of whether Joel McHale will be on board with the series if it makes it to TBS. Reports of his talks to join the project took place nearly a year ago; given his work on Netflix, McHale may have moved on.

In case you're not familiar with Quantum and Woody from Valiant, here's what you need to know. The stories follow a pair of adoptive brothers who were estranged for many years. They're brought back together after the mysterious death of their father, and their investigations takes an unexpected turn when they accidentally gain superpowers, as one does on the pages of comic books. The brothers are very different, and any team-up between them will probably be more dysfunctional than many other superhero partnerships, although Oliver Queen and Barry Allen's first attempt at a team-up in the first Arrow-verse crossover didn't exactly go well.

Only time will tell if Quantum and Woody will make it to television. For your current and upcoming viewing options, check out our summer TV premiere schedule.
