I Am Paul Walker Trailer Remembers The Fast And Furious Star

It's been nearly five years since Paul Walker got into a car accident in a Porsche that caught fire after it crashed at a high speed. The joyride ended the actor's life, but his legacy has lived on in the more recent Fast & Furious franchise movies. Now, Paramount Network has put together a documentary about Paul Walker's life, based on interviews from his family and friends. You can see the first trailer for I Am Paul Walker, below.

The first portion of the I Am Paul Walker trailer mostly focuses on his early life. We see footage of him scooting around with his sister on a toy vehicle, as well as a camera interview his family taped when he was a young teen. According to Walker's sister, Ashlie Walker, Paul always "liked to go fast," whether it was on Big Wheelers as a kid or on larger vehicles later in life. As an adult, we hear more about how Paul Walker enjoyed the simple life, things like surfing and his daughter.

Apparently, a part of him always wanted to be a park ranger with a low salary living and working in the woods, as well. In reality, he was a famous actor in a popular franchise, but he also had one foot in another way of existing most of the time, according to his family and friends. At the height of his career, as the Fast & Furious movies were changing direction and growing in popularity, Paul Walker was involved in a car accident at a charity event for Reach Out Worldwide. He had previously starred in Fast & Furious 6 and had already filmed most of his scenes for Furious 7 at the time of his death. His brothers Caleb and Cody helped to complete his remaining scenes so that the movie could come out intact. Both brothers appear in the trailer for I Am Paul Walker, as well.

It's not just Paul Walker's family who is set to speak out about their experiences, either. The trailer ends on a somber note, with longtime franchise co-star Tyrese Gibson explaining that the cast and crew all miss him. It's a void that seems as if it has been hard to fill. The actor even ends the preview on a rather haunting note, mentioning,

If you loved him the way we did, you would say, 'Well why him and not us?'

Paramount Network's new documentary will be hitting the TV network on August 11 at 9 p.m. ET. The series is getting a Saturday premiere, but should play again in the days after on the network. In addition, fans of the Fast family can catch the Hobbs and Shaw spinoff in 2019 and Fast and Furious 9, which is now coming out in 2020.
