Original Buffy The Vampire Slayer Showrunner Reacts To The Reboot

Actors and fans alike have had a lot to say regarding the recently announced Buffy The Vampire Slayer reboot. So it's no surprise Marti Noxon is sharing her thoughts on the new series as well. Noxon served as showrunner for the original show on Season 6 (in addition to serving as a main writer), and admitted she was not sure she was not on board with the idea of bringing the show back when she first heard the news, but has since come around:

I'll be honest, initially I was like, 'Nooo! Don't touch the sacred text!' But the more I learned about it, the more excited I got. I'm excited that there is a female showrunner and that she's a woman of color writing about a woman of color. So I'm actually really pumped for it.

Marti Noxon's initial response is understandable, as it's only natural someone involved in the original Buffy The Vampire Slayer wants the show's legacy protected. That said, a good deal of fans have calmed down after new showrunner Monica Owusu-Breen took to Twitter to strongly hint that this new series may not be the full-scale reboot fans are expecting. And with Noxon's "sacred text," remark, she may have been a fan calmed by that reassurance. If she wasn't, Noxon seems encouraged by the decision to kick the new version off with a female showrunner, as well as the decision to start the next chapter in the franchise with a more diverse cast.

As for whether or not she'd like to be involved, Marti Noxon told The Wrap it would depend on what she's doing at the time. Currently, she's the creator and overseeing the production of AMC's Dietland, and was also busy working on the HBO series Sharp Objects. Noxon added that she thinks the new Buffy The Vampire Slayer team has things covered, which may mean she hasn't given much thought to returning to the new iteration of her former series.

Marti Noxon is another person formerly associated with Buffy The Vampire Slayer on board for the reboot, and joins Alysson Hannigan and James Marsters in giving the reboot a thumbs up. For Hannigan and Marsters specifically, both actors have an immense trust in Joss Whedon, and are confident that he has what it takes to bring the world of Buffy back to primetime television. It's hard to dispute Whedon's track record, as whether his shows are raging commercial successes or failures, they tend to gain rather dedicated fans.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer's reboot is still in development, and CinemaBlend will keep fans updated with more details as they surface. In the meantime, be sure to visit both our summer and fall premiere guides to see what's coming to television over the next few months.
