Legacies Stars Aren't Exactly Experts On Vampire Diaries And The Originals History

Legacies, The CW

It's a good thing Legacies is set at a school, 'cause the stars have some learning to do. It's totally understandable, though. Legacies is the joint spinoff of The Vampire Diaries, which ran for eight seasons, and The Originals, which ran for five. Even boss Julie Plec probably has to hit the books for reminders on some of the mythology. The Legacies cast is mostly filled with newbies, with a couple of exceptions, and they struggled a bit when faced with questions on The Vampire Diaries Universe history:

TV Guide has the full five-minute video, showing they had a lot of fun with the cast through this "Legacies or Lies" game. Since Matthew Davis (Alaric Saltzman) is actually the only actor to star in all three Vampire Diaries Universe shows, he was pretty up on his history. It would've been pretty sad if he failed.

Kaylee Bryant was something of a surprise, though, since she's newer to this world. She plays teen twin Josie Saltzman, and was proud of her institutional knowledge. She was stumped at some points, but she said she's actually the set fact-checker for this kind of stuff. So she had a rep to protect.

Fellow twin star Jenny Boyd (Lizzie Saltzman) also had a solid answer to which came first -- werewolves or vampires -- showing she knows her stuff when it comes to the Mikaelson family background. Both twin stars knew their own family history in terms of being siphoners.

Danielle Rose Russell (Hope Mikaelson) probably should've known a bit more Mikaelson history. She came to Legacies from The Originals, so you'd think she'd be second best at this, after Matt Davis. Peyton Alex Smith (Rafael) and Quincy Fouse (MG) clearly just did a lot of guessing.

The cast answered questions on how vampires can be killed, vampire emotions, doppelgangers, daylight rings (tough one), vervain (most knew this one), and more. It's a good refresher for everyone, as Legacies gets deeper into the, well, legacies of these supernatural characters.

The most recent November 15 episode showed the twins referencing the Gemini Coven, and we're fully expecting that to come up many times in the future. Legacies has embraced a monster-of-the-week format, but we know Caroline Forbes is meant to be out there trying to find a way to protect the twins long-term.

The twins think Caroline is recruiting for the school, but Alaric knows the truth about what their mom is doing. We suspect it has to do with the Gemini Coven and the twins being forced to undergo The Merge. It's too bad the cast wasn't asked about that bit of TVD history. It's also too bad more TVD alumni weren't quizzed -- since Sheriff Matt Donovan and Jeremy Gilbert are now part of Legacies.

Speaking of more history, Matt Davis recently said he just wants Alaric to find lasting love on Legacies, since his former TVD history teacher has a long history of unfortunate relationships. We'll see if that happens when Legacies Season 1 continues Thursdays at 9 p.m. on The CW. Here's what else is still ahead on the fall TV schedule.

Gina Carbone

Gina grew up in Massachusetts and California in her own version of The Parent Trap. She went to three different middle schools, four high schools, and three universities -- including half a year in Perth, Western Australia. She currently lives in a small town in Maine, the kind Stephen King regularly sets terrible things in, so this may be the last you hear from her.
