Alias' Jennifer Garner And J.J. Abrams Are Reteaming For A New TV Show

alias jennifer garner

Jennifer Garner became a household name thanks to her work on Alias with executive producer J.J. Abrams, and the two are now set to collaborate on a brand new project at Apple. It's definitely not going to be an Alias revival or reboot, however, and I doubt that viewers will see Garner donning all manner of wigs and costumes as a spy this time around. The show will be called My Glory Was I Had Such Friends and follow the story of a woman awaiting a heart transplant.

My Glory Was I Had Such Friends was a 2017 memoir written by Amy Silverstein, and it follows a group of women who surrounded and supported Silverstein as she awaited a heart transplant. It was to be her second heart transplant and was absolutely necessary to save her life, and so the friendship, love, and resiliency shown by the women helped her get through a difficult time.

The memoir was actually acquired by J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot Productions shortly after it was released by in 2017, in a situation that Deadline describes as "competitive." Abrams and Jennifer Garner are both executive producing, with Garner also on board to star. No details are currently available about which of the many characters from the book Garner will play, but I'd say the odds are good that she'll be the leading lady.

The project scored a straight-to-series order from Apple, and it will run as a limited drama, so don't count on seeing Jennifer Garner back on the small screen indefinitely with My Glory Was I Had Such Friends. This is actually the second limited series Garner has signed on for in recent years; she recently starred in Camping on HBO.

My Glory Was I Had Such Friends will be adapted for Apple by Karen Croner, who has experience in adapting books to the screen after doing so in 2017 with The Tribes of Palos Verdes. That adaptation actually starred Jennifer Garner, making My Glory Was I Had Such Friends their second project together. Croner is on board as an executive producer as well, as is memoir author Amy Silverstein and Bad Robot's Ben Stephenson.

J.J. Abrams -- who is behind the next installment in the Star Wars sequel trilogy -- and Jennifer Garner are pretty big names to sign on for a new series, but that is seemingly becoming the norm for Apple. M. Night Shyamalan has a psychological thriller in the works with Rupert Grint on board, Steve Carell is returning to TV for a show with Jennifer Aniston, Chris Evans has a project, Jason Momoa is branching off of Netflix, Oprah signed a huge deal, Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon's show scored a two-season order, and more already!

There's no production or premiere date listed for My Glory Was I Had Such Friends at this point, so we may have quite a wait before it hits Apple. For some viewing options for the not-too-distant future, check out our midseason TV premiere schedule.
