Watch Carol Burnett Reflect On Her Career In Touching Golden Globes Speech

The Golden Globes gave out a brand new award this year and the first recipient was a television legend. The new award will be given in the future to those who have had a significant impact on the world of television. The award will be named for the great Carol Burnett and thus she was the first to receive the award at tonight's Golden Globes ceremony. As part of her acceptance speech, she looked back on that entire career, how she always dreamed of becoming part of Hollywood, and the legacy that she has left behind. Watch the full speech below.

In introducing the Carol Burnett award and the woman who would receive it, presenter Steve Carell said that Burnett was just as funny and wonderful a person as she appears to be on television. Based on the speech that she gave this evening, that certainly seems to be true. Burnett still makes us laugh, but she does so while giving an incredibly touching speech. It was a classy speech that sets a high bar for anybody else that wins this award in the future, They not only need to have had an impact on TV like Carol Burnett, they also need to give an acceptance speech that shows they're as remarkable a person.

The Carol Burnett Show hasn't been on the air since the late 1970s and most of the people watching the Golden Globes this evening have probably never watched an episode, but at the same time, it's impossible to know much of anything about comedy today and not be familiar with the show or the players who were part of it. Carol Burnett was sure to drop names like Vikki Lawrence, Harvey Korman, and Tim Conway during her speech, and each received an ovation from the crowd. all of them had great careers both as part of the show and beyond.

Carol Burnett pointed out that YouTube will be the home of a lot of her classic work for the foreseeable future. As she said, we'll likely never see a show quite like hers again. In that case, let's use YouTube to show off some of the great comedy from The Carol Burnett Show in case you're not familiar.

Certainly, there's nobody better to be the namesake of a television entertainment award than Carol Burnett. She's had an amazing career. Hopefully, one that isn't quite done yet because she's clearly still funny. If the future winners of the Carol Burnett Award have careers even half as wonderful they will deserve the accolade.
