Well, Twitter Hated Maroon 5's Halftime Show

Adam Levine "Girls Like You" via YouTube

Maroon 5's halftime performance has come and gone, and if Twitter is the measuring stick for how well the group did (questionable), it was a flop. Various people online left some harsh reviews for the group's performance on the internet, with some even going so far as to say it was just as lackluster as Super Bowl LIII's first half, commercials excluded. But don't take it from me...

There seem to be quite a few who think Adam Levine and crew let the world down with its performance. Some are actually upset by the performance, but honestly, quite a few more were upset about the lack of a proper tribute to Spongebob Squarepants. Rumors circulated that Maroon 5 would perform the song "Sweet Victory" from an episode of the show and while there was a tease, it never happened.

Maroon 5 might be paying for that mistake for awhile, as the tease may have made things worse than if the group hadn't acknowledged Spongebob Squarepants at all. The Spongebob meme community on the internet is strong in general, and many were watching in hopes the tribute would be a big honor to the show's creator Stephen Hillenburg, who died last year. When the song didn't play, the internet exploded with memes from slighted Spongebob fans. Again, don't take it from me...

Spongebob fans aside, there were a fair few folks who were just upset about the performance in general. For example, some felt the combination of Maroon 5 and rappers Travis Scott and Big Boi were an odd combination. Apparently, the artists can run side-by-side on the radio, but not during a live performance.

And of course, it wouldn't be Twitter if there weren't folks being as clever as they are petty. As the Super Bowl dragged on, some began to use the band's name as a verb to describe the the action. Considering the game was 3 to 0 nearly 3/4ths of the way through, it wasn't a glowing compliment.

Justin Timberlake fans may want to look away now, because there are even those who are saying it's a toss up regarding which of the two acts had a worse halftime show. Of course, the internet was referring to his second performance, and not the one that changed live television and halftime performances permanently. When some think a performance is so bad it has them reliving past performances they thought were bad, that's a, well, bad sign.

Just to say it though, Maroon 5 wouldn't have been selected for the Super Bowl halftime show if the band was comprised of a bunch of no-good talentless losers. Maroon 5 does have fans, and there were a number of them jumping on Twitter in an attempt to defend their band from the numerous amount of people looking to make jokes at their expense.

Right now there's an overwhelming support of haters liking other haters, but sorting through Twitter's latest tweets should show there's plenty of people who liked Maroon 5's performance just fine. Hell, some people have enjoyed that performance more than the entirety of the Super Bowl!
