Luke Perry Co-Stars And More Celebs React To The Actor's Death

It's hard for fans to believe that Luke Perry is gone, but it's even harder for the people who worked with him every day. Today he's best known for playing Dylan McKay across nearly 200 episodes of Beverly Hills, 90210; and for playing Archie's father Fred Andrews on The CW's Riverdale (which just shut down production for the day in his honor). But he also had roles on several other TV shows and in many films, and some of those co-stars also reached out with tributes in the wake of the actor's March 4 death at age 52.

Ian Ziering played Steve Sanders on 90210 opposite Luke Perry, and was quick to honor his friend:

Luke Perry played Archie Andrews' father Fred on Riverdale, which is currently airing Season 3. It's obviously too soon to know what they'll do with the character. Most of his co-stars already shared photos with him when it was announced that he had suffered a major stroke. They were probably still processing the devastating follow-up news on Monday.

Riverdale executive producers Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Jon Goldwater shared a statement (via Deadline):

We are deeply saddened to learn today about the passing of Luke Perry. A beloved member of the Riverdale, Warner Bros. and CW family, Luke was everything you would hope he would be: an incredibly caring, consummate professional with a giant heart, and a true friend to all. A father figure and mentor to the show's young cast, Luke was incredibly generous, and he infused the set with love and kindness. Our thoughts are with Luke's family during this most difficult time.

Riverdale creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa also shared his own personal tribute:

Shannen Doherty will always be associated with Luke Perry as the ultimate 90210 couple Dylan and Brenda. She had yet to release a statement on her former co-star's passing as of this posting, but on Sunday she told ET she had been in touch with Luke Perry since his major stroke:

I can't talk about it 'cause I will literally start crying, but I love him and he knows I love him. And I'm in contact. It's Luke, and he's my Dylan.

This is obviously a horrible time for those who knew Luke Perry best. Our thoughts go out to those loved ones.

Gina Carbone

Gina grew up in Massachusetts and California in her own version of The Parent Trap. She went to three different middle schools, four high schools, and three universities -- including half a year in Perth, Western Australia. She currently lives in a small town in Maine, the kind Stephen King regularly sets terrible things in, so this may be the last you hear from her.
