As Marvel Studios is gearing up to bring some shows with big MCU connections to Disney+, Sebastian Stan has a special request for his upcoming Falcon & Winter Soldier series with Anthony Mackie. Surprisingly, Stan isn't asking for more action scenes, or a major decision in Avengers: Endgame to be reversed, but rather an arc where Bucky can do some normal things, like dating.
I think it's time for Bucky to go out there and have an identity outside of the circumstances that we've met him through. He might do all kinds of things. He might even go on a date. [It's a] scary world out there, you know? Apps, things like that. I don't know what he's gonna do. I can't see him on an iPhone...I think it's gonna be a lot of dealing with Anthony's character and Anthony himself, which is always another character.
It's an odd request, although one that certainly has some potential. Bucky hasn't had the most normal life since his debut in the MCU, so showing him trying to have a civilian life outside of his heroic duties would be riveting to experience. Does Bucky understand how to use cellphones? Can he hold a normal conversation without a threat of violence? What kind of place does a career soldier of war call home?
These are the questions the upcoming Disney+ series will get to answer, but not anytime in the immediate future. Sebastian Stan told attendees at the Jus In Bello (via ComicBookMovie.com) things will kick off in October, which most assuredly means the show won't be ready for Disney+'s launch in November. Hey, at least subscribers will have an episode of The Mandalorian to look forward to, right?
Sebastian Stan's comments also make it sound as though Bucky will play a supporting role in the MCU Disney+ adventure, as he stated a bulk of the series will center around Anthony Mackie's Sam. Spoiler alert, that's likely due to Avengers: Endgame, in which Steve Rogers passed on the mantle of Captain America to Falcon. Stan's comments appear to indicate audiences will see Falcon tackling that responsibility, but he didn't leave any clues as to how Sam may take it.
Now, Winter Soldier will likely lend a hand to Sam at some point during a fight, but if he's not necessarily the main star of this adventure, there's certainly an opportunity for scenes in which Bucky attempts to be a normal person. Maybe he'll acclimate to life in modern America, although he seemed pretty comfortable in seclusion in Wakanda. Perhaps that's where an arc like that will eventually lead him?
We can only wait and see, as it's looking like 2020 is the earliest fans will see this Falcon and Winter Soldier series on Disney+. Stick with CinemaBlend in the meantime for other news on upcoming television shows, movies, and pop culture.
