When it comes to delivering the laughs, the team behind It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia knows no bounds, and they've been delivering some of television's most biting humor for 14 years. But creator Rob McElhenney, star Charlie Day and a pair of writers are taking a quick detour from Paddy's Pub life to deliver a completely different television experience of the streaming variety: a comedic mockumentary TV series that follows the creative team behind a massive video game.
Titled Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet, this new show is set to release later this year on Apple TV+, which will bring a delightful slice of comedy to the upcoming streaming service. Rob McElhenney picked the most appropriate time in the world to reveal this big news, as he came out on stage at the mega gaming expo E3 during Monday's round of panels.
There, Rob McElhenney explained that Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet was something he created with co-star Charlie Day and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia's writers and EPs Megan Ganz and David Hornsby (Rickety Cricket!). To be sure, though, this wasn't something that everyone just slapped together and hoped for the best. McElhenney explained:
We realized very early on that if we were going to do this, we wanted to do it right and to be as authentic as possible. Because as you all know, nobody smells bullshit like this particular community. So we did the right thing. We partnered with Ubisoft and away we went. It has been an incredible experience working with one of the biggest and best game developers in the world to inspire us because our show takes place in the fictional studio that created the biggest MMORPG in the world, Mythic Quest. And we meet them on the cusp of releasing their biggest expansion yet, Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet.
Creating successful TV shows and movies that are adapted from video games have been a gigantic challenge for the entertainment industry, but this particular project could very well work out perfectly simply by focusing on the creation of a particular game. Especially when the characters are likely going to be as over-the-top as expected. Especially Rob McElhenney's character.

The show follows the team of devs as they navigate the challenges of running their game while dealing with the difficulties of modern office life. These people are truly stuck together, yet they grind it out day after day for the love of the game. And at the head of that team is my character, the creative director Ian Grimm. Like most creative directors, he is gifted, driven and tirelessly dedicated to his game. And like most of the creative directors that I’ve met, he has an ego the size of a city bus.

While fellow It's Always Sunny co-star Glenn Howerton was busy making Season 2 of NBC's A.P. Bio, which has since been cancelled, Rob McElhenney and Charlie Day clearly wanted to spend their time doing something creative, and so now we have Mythic Quest for our enjoyment. We probably can't expect to see Danny DeVito crawling naked out of a couch, but I bet it'll be worth everyone's time all the same. Plus, now everyone is back together and working on Season 14, so it's the best of all worlds.
For now, there isn't any specific release information available about when viewers can expect to see Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet making its way to Apple TV+, but the service will likely be promoting the heck out of it once everything goes live.
