Why The Walking Dead Season 10 Gave Rosita's Baby That Sweet Name

Are you ready for The Walking Dead Season 10, aka AMC's new take on Three Men and a Baby? The 2019-2020 season starts October 6, and AMC has been sharing "TWD Reveals" each week. One recent reveal gave Walking Dead fans new intel on Rosita's (Christian Serratos) baby girl, named Socorro, aka "Coco."

Yes, there's another time jump between The Walking Dead Season 9 and Season 10, and it's enough time for Rosita's baby to have been born.

Not only that, we now have the first photos of baby Coco. She's the daughter of Rosita and Siddiq (Avi Nash), although Rosita is now in a relationship with Father Gabriel (Seth Gilliam), and she still has Eugene (Josh McDermitt) waiting in the wings because he doesn't know how to quit her.

During the Talking Dead Season 10 preview special, Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang explained how actress Christian Serratos came up with Rosita's baby name:

When we were naming the baby for the show, I called up Christian, who plays Rosita, and was like, ‘Hey, what do you think Rosita would name this baby? Just curious. She said there’s a family name in her family, Socorro, and several women in her family have had that name, and they’re always nicknamed ‘Coco.’ She’s like, ‘I think that would be a cool name for the baby.'

Check out a photo of Rosita and Eugene with baby Coco:

Oh come on, Eugene, I bet you Daryl Dixon smells way worse than baby Coco. Here's another shot of Eugene looking fondly at his ... niece? He's Uncle Eugene, right?

Coco is an adorable name, and Socorro also means relief or help in Spanish, so it's fitting for an apocalyptic show. Judith was named for Carl Grimes' beloved pre-apocalypse teacher. Hershel Rhee was named for Maggie's father. RJ is Rick Jr., the son of Michonne and Rick Grimes. Gracie already had her name when we met her.

Babies tend to be born during time jumps. Maybe The Walking Dead figures we're good with birth scenes after the heartbreak of what happened to Lori, Carl, and Maggie for Judith's birth at the prison.

Angela Kang said The Walking Dead marks time by the progress of pregnancies and babies, and that's kind of been a tradition on the show since we watched Lori's pregnancy, and then saw the different young stars playing Judith. That culminated in a six-year time jump in The Walking Dead Season 9, giving us the now badass preteen Judith Grimes (Cailey Fleming).

At any rate, it sounds like "the love quadrangle" co-parenting baby Coco will bring some much-needed comic relief to The Walking Dead Season 10.

AMC previously revealed other new Season 10 photos, including the introduction of Juan Javier Cardenas as Dante, described as "a rogue and fast-talking dude, he will play a pivotal role in the story of Alexandria this season." He also has ties to Maggie in The Walking Dead comic book, which hopefully hints to a Maggie return. Check out those photos:

The photos also showed Carol and Daryl together, giving Caryl fans even more hope. (Apparently Daryl and Negan may also work together.) We also got more shots of Michonne, and it's going to be tough to say goodbye to actress Danai Gurira this season. Will we finally see the return of Lauren Cohan as Maggie?

Of course, we know Alpha and the Whisperers are still out there and that storyline is far from done. We're even getting more Whisperers, including Thora Birch's Gamma. Re-watch the Season 10 trailer to refresh your memory on what's to come, and check out everything we know so far about The Walking Dead Season 10. The TV show returns Sunday, October 6 at 9 p.m. on AMC.

Gina grew up in Massachusetts and California in her own version of The Parent Trap. She went to three different middle schools, four high schools, and three universities -- including half a year in Perth, Western Australia. She currently lives in a small town in Maine, the kind Stephen King regularly sets terrible things in, so this may be the last you hear from her.
