2019 Emmy Awards: Game Of Thrones, Ozark And The Full List Of Snubs, Surprises And Other Winners

It’s hard to believe it’s already been a whole year since last year’s Emmy hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che lit up the stage, keeping things lively as wins were handed off to cable hits like Game of Thrones and streaming hits like Netflix’s The Crown. In fact the ceremony this year should mark the end of an era, as Game of Thrones has ended and its final season will be represented at this year's awards. (Although that's a tale with a lot of twists, as some actors on the show had to submit themselves for consideration this year.)

This year, the ceremony will even look a little bit different. The Emmys are ultimately opting to go host-less this year, for example, following last year’s less-than-stellar ratings. This also means the broadcast as a whole will feature changes, with presenters doing more than 30 seconds of witty banter onstage before giving out an award to keep things moving.

There are plenty of ways to watch the 71st Annual Emmy Awards either through broadcast or streaming, but we’ll also be keeping a handy winners updated here. Please also note that some awards were given out during the creative Emmys earlier this month and have been updated accordingly.

As you can see, some of the winners above were revealed earlier this month at the 2019 Creative Emmy Awards and may or may not be mentioned during tonight's broadcast, depending on how Fox chooses to set up the 71st Emmy Awards. In addition to the acting categories, CBS All Access' Star Trek: Discovery won an award for prosthetics, sound mixing awards went to Barry and Chernobyl, as half-hour and movie/limited length shows, respectively.

Next, the production design award was given to The Handmaid's Tale, which also nabbed a win for a guest star in the drama category, thanks to a performance from Cherry Jones. (All guest star winners should already be listed above.) Chernobyl took the award for production design in a limited series and seems as if it could be one of the darlings of the main event, as well. Looking through the full list of Creative Emmy winners, you'll see a lot of repeat winners from the two shows already listed in this paragraph as well as the likes of Barry, Fosse/Verdon and Game of Thrones, although there are plenty of other shows represented in streaming and otherwise as well.

Amazon's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel was clearly a frontrunner heading into tonight's big event, but Netflix's wonderful Russian Doll series won an award for outstanding costumes and cinematography on "Ariadne," while One Day at a Time pulled through with a Picture Editing Award for "The Funeral." Netflix's The Ranch was also represented with a cinematography win for "Reckless." And that's just the tip of the iceberg for Netflix wins.

What's most interesting to me about this lot of nominees and soon-to-be winners is how so many of them come from the same shows. Looking above you'll see multiple nominees from the same programs represented. This has always been how the voting shakes out to an extent, as people vote for nominees from popular programs, but to me it definitely feels even more apparent this year. That's a feeling and not an actual fact I checked, but what do you think? Are there too few shows represented this year?

The 71st Annual Emmy Awards air September 22, only on Fox. If you want to catch the red carpet stuff beforehand, pre-shows are airing on Fox, E! and People TV.
