The Masked Singer Isn't Airing A New Episode This Week, But What About Next Week?

Fox's The Masked Singer has been one of the most dominant shows on television in the ratings ever since its first season, and Season 2 has proved that there were plenty of people ready to return to arguably the most bizarre broadcast network reality competition series. Despite its status as a ratings juggernaut, however, a new episode of The Masked Singer won't air in its usual 8 p.m. ET time slot this week. Why won't any celeb singers be unmasked on October 23? America's pastime, of course!

Yes, it's that World Series time of the year again, and Major League Baseball has taken over Fox. The 2019 championship series pits the Washington Nationals against the Houston Astros, with MLB.com sharing that the first of at least four games took place on October 22 in Houston. The second game of the best-of-seven series is what takes over the Masked Singer's usual 8 p.m. ET time slot on Wednesday. Game 2 kicks off at 8 p.m. ET on Fox on October 23. But will this be the only week of the World Series sliding in to The Masked Singer's slot?

That's not clear just yet. Now, given that Houston was ranked first in the American League and Washington D.C. was ranked fourth in the National League before making it to the World Series, it felt arguably possible that the series wouldn't run for the full seven games. That said, the Nationals won Game 1; if the World Series does go to seven games, then next week's episode of The Masked Singer will be pushed back as well. Game 7, if necessary, will be played on Wednesday, October 30 at 8 p.m. ET in Houston, with the broadcast airing on Fox.

Why The Masked Singer Shouldn't Include Professional Singers In Season 3

While the World Series going to seven games would make for an epic series for baseball fans, it would be bad news for The Masked Singer fans who would have to go two weeks without a new episode. If the show was being bumped by anything other than the World Series, I'd wonder if Fox was concerned that The Masked Singer was being replaced by a broadcast that wouldn't score nearly as high of ratings. After all, The Masked Singer has killed almost all the non-football competition in the fall TV season so far. The World Series will probably draw a healthy audience, however.

It should be interesting to see how the World Series airing this week rather than a new episode of The Masked Singer impacts the rest of the Wednesday night lineup on October. It's probably safe to say that Fox won't be missing the ratings from Almost Family, as The Masked Singer surprisingly failed to launch that freshman series, but if enough people are invested in the World Series, the entire rest of network programming on the night could be impacted.

Professional sports games aren't generally the kind of broadcasts that people record to watch later, so I'll certainly be curious to see the Live+Same day ratings for this week.
