Jason Momoa Felt Cheated By Game Of Thrones And Other Roles Before See

We’re about to “see” a whole new side of Jason Momoa. The actor is set to star in the new series See, which he says is a departure from many of the big roles he’s taken in the past, particularly on TV. In fact, he spoke out a bit about feeling “cheated” thanks to roles in shows like Game of Thrones and Frontier.

What does that mean exactly? Well, the actor says he feels like in the past his TV roles have not explained the full story of the characters he has played, particularly on Game of Thrones when he was killed off fairly early in the show's run, thanks to Khal Drogo's arc in George R.R. Martin's novels. Per Jason Momoa:

I’ve always wanted to do this. I’ve always felt like I’ve been cheated in a lot of the things I’ve done. You try to show a little bit of color in there, you know, with Conan, but no one wants to see Conan crying and with Drogo he died before any of that stuff could happen. In Frontier all his family were killed and it was about the revenge of it all. In [See] it’s just beautiful because you see the whole arc of it all.

All of that is changing in the new Apple TV+ series See, which just hit the new streaming service on November 1. Jason Momoa is the lead in the project written by Steven Knight and directed by Hunger GamesFrancis Lawrence. He stars as Baba Vass, a chieftain in a blind society whose children are gifted with sight.

The general premise of the series has him protecting his twin children and leading a revolution against the queen. Presumably, he won’t be getting killed off early in this series and its multi-episode format should also give the actor a chance to flesh out the character in ways some of his other TV and movie roles have not.

If you haven’t caught the trailer for the new show yet, you can take a look below.

Ultimately, given his comments about feeling a bit “cheated” to NME, it’s clear Jason Momoa is pumped about the opportunities See is bringing to the table. This is particularly true given See is one of multiple shows Apple TV+ went ahead and renewed ahead of release. (Unlike one show, which got cancelled before release.)

That’s right, See will most definitely have a continued storyline, given the show was renewed for Season 2 just a couple of weeks ago. It was one of four series already given the greenlight for another round on Apple TV+. Along with Jason Momoa’s new series, Hailee Steinfeld’s Dickinson has already been renewed for Season 2. In addition, Little America and Home Before Dark have also been renewed.

What that means for Jason Momoa is that he’ll 100% be given the opportunity to spend plenty of time fully fleshing out the character of Baba Vass, something he did not get to do on Game of Thrones or Frontier, which Momoa says he feels was more of a one-trick role.

Apple TV+ allegedly spent upwards of $240 million on the first two seasons of See, so it is clear the fledgling streaming service has high hopes for the project, although it's worth pointing out the new streamer plans to spend big money in order to compete with some of the other services out there.
