Considering the popularity of Kelly Marie Tran’s Rose Tico and the success of The Mandalorian, you have to think Disney+ may consider this! Despite a new role in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Rose did not get much to do on-screen. Hence, there is a lot to explore about Rose that a Disney+ series could definitely delve into with Jon M. Chu’s help.

The Disney streamer has not been shy about planning new TV shows. Why not one about the mega-popular Star Wars character? Rose was introduced in the second film in the recent trilogy, and there is undoubtedly an existing fanbase to support a series about her. Would Kelly Marie Tran be willing to reprise the role for a full-blown TV series? Maybe!

It is unclear what part Crazy Rich Asians’ Jon M. Chu would like to have in the proposed Rose Tico series. Would he want to direct, write, or act as showrunner on the TV show? Maybe all of the above? The bottom line is that Chu is motivated for there to be a Rose Tico show on Disney+, and he wants to help make it happen. Maybe it could be a prequel that shows Rose with her sister after they first joined the Resistance? I'm already on board!

This is a pretty significant development. Jon M. Chu underlined his reason for wanting a Rose Tico series with a hashtag stating that Rose deserved better. A hashtag seemingly referring to her screen time in The Rise of Skywalker. Many Star Wars fans clearly agree with Chu’s sentiment. His tweet has garnered nearly a thousand retweets and 5.5 thousand likes!

Jon M. Chu has two sequels to Crazy Rich Asians coming up and it may be a while before fans get to see them. Nevertheless, Chu is clearly pretty busy. He also has a film adaptation of In the Heights currently set to be released in 2020. Could Chu fit a Rose Tico series in? He sounds ready to make room in his schedule to get one to happen.

Time will tell if a Rose Tico TV series ever materializes on Disney+. For now, Star Wars fans have The Mandalorian to watch as one of this winter’s premieres. All episodes of Season 1 for the live-action Star Wars series are now available on Disney+.
