Yes, Star Wars' Chewbacca Actor Noticed That Little Insult In The Mandalorian

Chewbacca Star Wars

While the general consensus on the merits of Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker has yet to be determined, The Mandalorian Season 1 has received near-universal acclaim. Even folks within the Star Wars movies are giving credit to the live-action Disney+ series, though Chewbacca actor Joonas Suotamo doesn't know what to make of a joke that seemed to be made at his character's expense.

Joonas Suotamo revealed that he "loved" The Mandalorian Season 1, though he's on the fence about those Jawas from the second episode. Suotamo gave the show a shout out, and highlighted the line in question his character might've ripped some arms out over.

People thought Din Djarin was a bit rough with his treatment of the Jawas, but Joonas Suotamo more or less confirmed Chewie wouldn't have stood for that nonsense. Not too surprising, considering how worked up he gets over simple games against friends, and now I'm over here wishing Chewie gets a guest spot on The Mandalorian Season 2. Joonas Suotamo appears to be a fan, so it's not entirely impossible, right?

Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni may have worked that Jawa diss in there just to make a funny, though it's worth noting the joke touched on an unanswered bit of Star Wars lore. While it's known that Wookiees can understand Galactic Basic (the equivalent of English in Star Wars), they do not appear physically able to speak languages that fall outside ones known on their home planet of Kashyyyk. Basically, this Jawa burn may have cut a bit deeper than it seemed, which may be why Din shot his flamethrower at the little scavengers.

We have no details on how deep the The Mandalorian's writers wanted it to go, though the voice actor of the Jawa, David Acord shared his thoughts on the line. Acord reached out to Joonas Suotamo, and gave the actor his thoughts on the line and what the meaning behind it was about.

It's good to see The Mandalorian get continued praise from people within the Star Wars family, especially since Season 2 is already in development. In a time where the fandom is still contentious and in fevered debate in regards to the movies, the television side appears to be doing pretty good. Of course, we still have some other shows on the way, so there's plenty of time for them to kick up some controversy and divide the fandom on the television side as well.
