Chicago Fire Will Deliver ‘A Liam Neeson Revenge’ In Crossover With Chicago P.D.

Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. are joining forces once more in February for a case that will bring back a character from P.D. days gone by: Sean Roman, played by Brian Geraghty. Roman hasn't been seen in One Chicago since being forced into early retirement from the CPD and taking off for San Diego at the end of P.D. Season 3. According to one star, early retirement won't stop him from going full-on Liam Neeson back in Chicago. So, what will take Roman into Taken territory?

Jesse Spencer, who has played Matt Casey on Chicago Fire from the very first episode, shared what will bring Roman back to Chicago for the Fire/P.D. two-parter:

His sister goes missing, and there's a whole bunch of [overdoses] at their school... He's out to find his sister even though he's not allowed to do police work. Voight doesn't want him around doing the cop stuff... I feel like it's almost a Liam Neeson[-like] revenge thing.

Based on Jesse Spencer's comments to TV Guide, it's probably safe to say that Roman didn't make a miraculous recovery in San Diego and is back in crime-fighting shape to do some "cop stuff" with Voight's blessing. If Roman is channeling his inner Liam Neeson and going in a Taken direction for revenge, Voight not being happy probably won't be enough to discourage him. Well, if Fire can go full Fast and Furious, a P.D. character can go full Taken!

Will this case be what Chicago P.D. showrunner Rick Eid hinted brings Halstead's drive to help people at all cost into play in the crossover? And what about Burgess? Roman had asked Burgess to join him in leaving Chicago, but she declined. If Roman is hoping to rekindle something between them, he might not be thrilled to find out that Burgess is pregnant with Ruzek's child. That said, Roman will surely have bigger things on his mind.

Since the Fire/P.D. crossover will kick off with Fire, we can assume that Roman actually makes his return to One Chicago on Fire rather than his old series. Chicago Fire showrunner Derek Haas did comment that when it comes to crossovers with P.D., "we definitely subsume their tone more than they subsume ours," so Fire fans may want to prepare for as much darkness as One Chicago can pack into the 9 p.m. ET time slot.

Derek Haas elaborated to CinemaBlend on the case that will bring Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. together:

[I]n the second half of the season we try to do a smaller crime-specific two-parter between Fire and P.D., and what's going to happen is bells are going to go off and our paramedics are gonna be called out, and there's a pretty bad overdose going on that's gonna bring in an old character from Chicago P.D.'s history who's gonna come back, and that's going to be the jumping off point for what's going to end up being a major crossover event.

So, Brett and Foster will likely be the first Fire characters to encounter the case of the drug overdose. Does this mean they'll be the first in the Fire/P.D. crossover to cross paths with Roman, or will that come later? And who will bring the P.D. crew into the mix? If Burgess is on desk duty (or at least light duty) by that point, then Intelligence could be a cop down when it comes to fighting crime on the streets during a dangerous case.

See what happens in the upcoming Chicago Fire crossover with Chicago P.D. when it kicks off on Wednesday, February 26 with an episode of Fire at 9 p.m. ET and P.D. at 10 p.m. ET. Chicago Med will presumably also air a new episode (and possibly answer more burning questions) on February 26 at 8 p.m. ET, but without participating in the overdose case in the Fire/P.D. crossover.
