Loki Reportedly Casts Tom Hiddleston's First Co-Star, And It's A Wild Choice

Tom Hiddleston as Loki in Avengers: Endgame Marvel Studios

Cross your fingers that this Loki casting report pans out because it's gold.

Tom Hiddleston said his Disney+ series Loki would start production at the top of 2020, and that's where (or when) we are right now. The actor recently showed he's already busy with stunt prep. So it's not surprising to hear about potential co-stars for the show. However, it is a pleasant surprise -- and so very meta -- to read the first new star reportedly joining Loki's Marvel Cinematic Universe team is ... Owen Wilson.

Yes! One word: Wow. Owen Wilson is a great choice for many reasons, but most of all because of his connection to Tom Hiddleston. Hiddleston's impression of Owen Wilson went viral a few years ago. But it wasn't just an impression of the actor, it was specifically an impression of Owen Wilson as Loki.

And now, according to Comicbook, Owen Wilson has been cast in Loki with Tom Hiddleston. Amazing. No idea who he might be playing yet, but the site said it was a major role. Since Loki isn't expected on Disney+ until 2021, there's plenty of time to learn more.

MCU fans saw Loki die toward the start of Avengers: Infinity War. However, Avengers: Endgame sent several characters back in time, and the Loki show will reportedly follow the new timeline Loki created in 2012 New York when he took the Space Stone and escaped.

We know Loki is meant to have a tie-in to Doctor Strange's next movie, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Everything is going to start coming together once these Marvel Studios Disney+ shows arrive, beginning with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which reportedly premieres this summer.

Back to Owen Wilson, though. He and Tom Hiddleston worked together before, and apparently Wilson has even seen Hiddleston's impression of him. Loki would be doing a disservice to the planet if it didn't play into that in some way.

In 2013, Access Hollywood asked Tom Hiddleston how his Owen Wilson impression came about. Here's what he said:

I was in Sydney [promoting Thor: The Dark World] and I’ve always done impressions for theater, ever since I was a kid. I used to have a double tape deck and I used to have my own radio show, as it were, and I’d be the weather girl, and I’d be guests. I’ve always done silly voices. I worked with Owen in Midnight in Paris and it was just a question from someone in the audience, they said, ‘Would you do Owen Wilson doing Loki?’ And, like the circus bear that I am, I said, ‘OK!’ And somehow the news traveled.

Tom Hiddleston added that he didn't expect his impression to get millions of views and go viral, and he hadn't had a chance to speak to Owen Wilson about it by that point in 2013:

Somebody did tell me that he’s seen it, which worries me slightly. [laughs] No, he’s a good guy and we had a really good time making that film.

I hope this Loki casting pans out and Owen Wilson turns the tables with his own Loki impression in Loki. Time will tell. (Hint hint.) Loki isn't expected until 2021, but Marvel Studios changed the date for WandaVision so you never know what might happen for Loki.
