Rachel Brosnahan in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

SPOILER ALERT: Spoilers ahead from Season 3 of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

Over the course of its first three seasons, the Amazon original series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has entertained fans and critics alike with its wit, charm, and a certain foul-mouthed Jewish mother from New York City. The series has become a must watch show for the 3.2 million viewers who watched the series within the first seven days of the Season 3 premiere. It has also become one of the most highly decorated shows with a total of 16 Emmys (just through the first two seasons), with more surely to come. And with Season 3 leaving Miriam "Midge" Maisel (Rachel Brosnahan) and the rest of the cast in uncharted waters, viewers are eager to see how the story picks back up when Season 4 is released.

With all of the excitement surrounding the eventual fourth season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, now is the perfect time to take a look at what we know about one of the most celebrated and highly regarded comedy series currently streaming.

Who Are The Showrunners?

Shortly after Season 3 of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel was released in December 2019, the Hollywood Reporter reported that Amazon had renewed the series for a fourth season, which would be headed up the show's creator, Amy Sherman-Palladino and her fellow co-executive producer and husband Daniel Palladino. Good news there, as this team has given us some of the funniest and most heartwarming moments in contemporary television.

Who Is Starring?

No surprise here but Rachel Brosnahan will be returning as the show's central protagonist, Miriam "Midge" Maisel when Season 4 premieres on Amazon. At the time of the season's announcement, Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios said viewers will get to see the continuation of Midge's in the show's fourth season. And after bringing home an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her portrayal as the titular Mrs. Maisel, it's no surprise that the studio is bringing back the show's star attraction.

There's still no word on the show's award winning supporting cast, but with the way things ended for most of them in Season 3, it's safe to say we'll be seeing at least some of those faces again in the very near future.

What Happened At The End Of Season 3?

Like the previous seasons in the series, Season 3 of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel ending with some closure, new beginnings, and a lot of fireworks. What else would we expect from a series that has made a name for itself by not holding back on the laughs, or the drama.

Midge

Towards the end of the season, we see Midge nearly "out" Shy Baldwin onstage in front of his hometown crowd at the famed Apollo Theater in Harlem after she mistakenly assumes that everyone knows that he is gay. While Midge gets the crowd to laugh and practically eat out of the palm of her hand, it looks like she took things a little too far this time. In the final moments of the Season 3 finale, Midge and Susie are about to board Shy's private plane for another round of shows when Shy's manager and longtime friend Reggie (Sterling K. Brown) informs the two that Shy has dropped Midge from the tour after nearly exposing him to the public. We're left watching a pleading, and visibly upset Midge and Susie stand in shock as the plane takes off without them.

Those closest to Midge also had quite a time in Season 3, and here's where the key players left off.

Susie Myerson

At the end of the season, Susie hands over Midge's finances to Joel Maisel (Michael Zegen) and then finds a way to pay back Midge for the lost earnings by burning down her deceased mother's house and collecting the insurance check.

Joel Maisel

In addition to taking over his ex-wife's finances, Joel's arc in Season 3 also sees the opening of his own comedy club, but like most things in Joel's life, it gets off to a rocky start.

Abraham and Rose Weissman

Season 3 gave Midge's parents, Abraham (Tony Shalhoub) and Rose Weissman (Marin Hinkle) a lot of time to shine and afforded both characters with their own story arcs. Following an eventful season, Abraham and Rose both find their own callings in life with Abraham picking up writing and Rose picking up matchmaking with her wealthy friends' adult children.

Where Can You Stream Past Seasons?

All three seasons of the critically acclaimed series, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video. With that being said, there's no reason to miss out on any of the hilarious and heartwarming episodes.

What Is The Rating?

The official rating of Season 4 of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has yet to be released at this time, but the previous three seasons are all listed as having a TV-MA rating on the show's Amazon page. The show earned this rating with sex and nudity, violence and gore, profanity, alcohol, drugs and smoking, and frightening and intense scenes.

You mean to tell me a show about a raunchy female comedian breaking gender stereotypes in the mid-20th Century is going have a lot of profanity, sex, and alcohol use? You don't say.

Are There Any Trailers Or Other Spoilers?

Outside of a tweet from the official The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Twitter account saying "It's time for an encore," there's not much in terms of trailers or teasers for the upcoming season.

In an interview with IndieWire, the show's star, Rachel Brosnahan revealed that no one besides the show's executive producers, Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino know what's in store for Mrs. Maisel and the rest of the cast going into Season 4. Despite not knowing any plot points or where her character is going moving forward, Brosnahan believes that the production on the show's fourth season will start at some point in the spring. Maybe we'll see any early teaser revealing a premiere date sometime around time.

When Does Season 4 Premiere?

With Season 4 of the Amazon original series not even in protection yet, it's hard to say when the show will be up for streaming. However, if we go off the previous three seasons, we should see new episodes drop at some point in late fall 2020.

The pilot episode of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel debuted on March 17, 2017, but the rest of the show's first season premiered eight months later on November 29, 2017. Amazon Studios released the entire second season on December 5, 2018, and then did the same thing for Season 3 on December 6, 2019. We don't know for sure, but it's safe to assume that we can pick up with Midge, Susie, Joel, and the rest of the cast between late November and early December 2020.

What Is The Story Of Season 4?

We still don't know much of anything at all about the actual story or what to expect in Season 4 of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, but it looks like we might start off from square one after Midge's act got her kicked off a well-paying and highly publicized tour with Shy Baldwin. How Midge picks herself up from the pit she found herself in at the end of Season 3 could make for an exciting and new spin for the character going into the next season.

With the course of the show moving forward through early 1960s America, Midge and the rest of the cast will probably find themselves in a society bracing for change ahead of the Cultural Revolution of the mid to late 1960s, so we might see how the sea change in American culture is reflected through the lives of the central cast.

But like Brosnahan said in the IndieWire interview mentioned earlier, no one on the cast truly knows what is in store for their characters as the show's producers like to keep everyone on their toes in terms of what's going on with their characters.

Will There Be Any New Characters In Season 4?

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has introduced a number of new characters (both main and supporting) throughout the show's first three seasons, so we can only guess that we will see some new faces pop up when the series eventually returns.

Over the course of the first three seasons, the show has done a tremendous job of introducing characters based on real life performers, including the show's version of the trailblazing standup comedian Lenny Bruce, who has had a prominent role in all three seasons of the show as he helps guide Midge through the early goings of her career in the comedy business. Will we see similar characters based off real world comedians and musicians introduced as we move forward? We can only hope.

Well, that is all we know about Season 4 of the hit Amazon original series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, at least so far. Like all things television, this will probably change as production kicks off and we get more information about the upcoming season, so make sure to check back for the most up-to-date news.
