Zendaya As Santana? Ryan Murphy Shares Excellent Glee Reunion Fantasy Casting Image With A-List Stars

Ideas for TV reboots and revivals are all the rage nowadays, and another go at Glee seems all but inevitable at this point. Glee showrunner Ryan Murphy recently shared an image that he received on social media with some suggestions for actors who could play the characters in a reboot, and the person who did the casting didn't shy away from selecting A-list talent, including Zendaya to play former cheerleader Santana. Take a look at the ambitious casting for Glee 2.0!

I'm not sure about all the celebrity castings in the image that Ryan Murphy posted on Instagram, but Zendaya at least is one who could definitely handle the singing of Glee. In fact, thanks to her music career and contributions to The Greatest Showman, Zendaya fans would probably love to see her in any kind of musical role in her career moving forward. Pretty solid casting, if Naya Rivera wasn't going to reprise her role in this fantasy casting!

As for the rest of the celebrity castings in the image, I think it's safe to say that some of them might have trouble passing for high schoolers. Scarlett Johansson playing Tina (who was played on Glee by Jenna Ushkowitz) has to be a commentary on Johannson's casting in Ghost in the Shell, among other controversial castings. Whoever made the image reunited the casts of some big movies as well.

Tom Holland as Artie, Zendaya as Santana, and Laura Harrier as Mercedes would make for a Spider-Man: Homecoming reunion. Saoirse Ronan as Rachel, Timothée Chalamet as Finn, and Florence Pugh as Brittany joining forces on this fictional Glee reboot would reunite the stars from Little Women, although I'm guessing any version of Glee would be a pretty far cry from Little Women aside from Ronan at the center.

Given some of Robert Pattison's comments and looks over the years, his casting as the fashion-conscious Kurt is worth a laugh. Emma Stone to play Glee's Emma makes some degree of sense, insofar as she has the red hair and wouldn't have to stretch her acting muscles to answer to the name "Emma."

While Brad Pitt is a bold choice to play Will Schuester, I still say that Timothée Chalamet as Finn is probably the most bizarre of these A-list stars. Chalamet might have experience working opposite Saoirse Ronan, but I wouldn't have cast him as a football player out of the cast of Glee characters. Still, these are all crazy enough castings that I for one wonder what went into the selections, other than perhaps the maker being a fan of Spider-Man: Homecoming and Little Women.

Only time will tell if Ryan Murphy does make a Glee reboot happen at some point. Between his FX shows and his deal with Netflix that already produced Hollywood (which nearly went full-frontal with some of the male cast members), he's a busy man in showbiz, but I wouldn't rule a reboot out. That said, I would be very surprised if any of these fantasy castings ever joined a TV show to play a Glee character.

If you're now in the mood to go on a Glee-ful blast from the past, you can find the full series streaming on Netflix now. For some additional upcoming viewing options, be sure to check out our 2020 summer premiere schedule.
