It’s been a weird summer. There was a lot of uncertainty about when TV shows like The Conners and Station 19 on ABC would be able to go back into production, but as the country is opening up again, the networks are feeling more bullish about releasing their upcoming fall schedules. In fact, we now know when some of ABC’s biggest programs are expected to return to the airwaves once more.
In fact, there will be some changes to ABC’s schedule in the fall. A few new shows Big Sky and Call Your Mother are being added into the mix. Wednesday will also be a new day of comedy for ABC, which will air a two-hour comedy block followed by Stumptown, The Cobie Smulders series set in Portland that is heading into Season 2.

As primetime heats up later in the week, the network will be rolling out some big guns. I love that super dramatic block on Thursday nights which features Grey’s Anatomy and its spinoff, along with the return of A Million Little Things. Really, though, the most exciting thing for me to see on this schedule is Saturday Night Football.
For someone who writes about TV and not sports for a living, I know that may seem a little ridiculous and perhaps it is, but there was a time when it didn’t seem possible that sports would happen this year. However, thus far some major no contact sports including Nascar have gotten back to work and other sports are figuring out new safety protocols so a season can happen, including the NHL, NBA and the NFL.

As you can see, there are some big titles that have been left off of ABC’s fall schedule. This includes American Idol, black-ish, The Bachelor, mixed-ish, $100,000 Pyramid, Card Sharks and For Life. I’d be willing to bet that $100,000 pyramid that the two Kenya Barris shows will run in their own block, but we’ll really have to wait and see how the schedule pans out for the winter 2021 part of the season.
Meanwhile, The Bachelor franchise will finally be adding a black bachelor, signing on North Carolina’s Matt James to take on the task. It will be an interesting year for network TV, as some shows still have to finish out episodes that were supposed to film before the industry-wide shutdown. With that in mind, it should be an incredible fall kickoff for TV as finales become season openers and so on and so forth.
