The Boys Renewed For Season 3 At Amazon, And There's More Good News

the boys season 2

A superhero show that has more crossover appeal than you can shake The Deep's stick at, The Boys was a huge success for Amazon when it comes to original streaming projects (as well as comic book adaptations, R-rated TV, shows starring Karl Urban, etc.). The Season 2 renewal didn't take long to arrive, and now that the show's return to audiences is imminent, Amazon has tripled down on the superhero-filled series by officially renewing The Boys for Season 3! But wait, there's more!

Announced after The Boys' panel for ComicCon@Home by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, the Season 3 renewal is a wonderful thing, especially for fans who hate waiting around in worry to hear news from studios about a TV show's future. Considering The Boys' second season will be released on a weekly basis, as opposed to streaming everything at once, that would have no doubt stretched the waiting game out to miserable lengths. But no reason to be nervous anymore, because Amazon was quick to make this decision known to everyone, and the news was coupled with the reveal that there will now be an after-show accompanying Season 2 episodes.

Called Power Rewind: Inside The Boys, the new after-show will be hosted by Archer and Criminal Minds vet Aisha Tyler, who will also serve as an executive producer. Tyler, who also moderated the Boys' Comic-Con panel, is clearly a fan of the series, and she'll be interviewing different actors, members of the creative team and other surprise guest stars in each episode. Expect to get some fun and explicit behind-the-scenes stories and bonkers videos.

Here's what creator and showrunner Eric Kripke had to say about the Amazon renewal and unscripted offshoot:

Amazon, in a bold and historic push to expand their ‘weirdo’ demographic, has greenlit Season 3 of The Boys! The writers and I are hard at work in the (virtual) writer’s room and we’re sad to say, the world has given us way too much material. We hope to be shooting in early 2021, but that’s up to a microscopic virus. As if that wasn’t enough, we’re bringing you a Season 2 after show, Prime Rewind: Inside The Boys. Double entendre intended. Hosted by the incomparable Aisha Tyler and guest starring the cast and crew, it’s a deep dive into how we make this insane thing.

Though there's no telling when The Boys Season 3 will be able to film, the early renewal will allow creator Eric Kripke and others on the creative team to have a solid amount of time to plan out what they want to do with the third batch of adventures. (And to officially announce Jeffrey Dean Morgan's involvement, if it's legit.) Here's hoping (and strongly assuming) that we'll end up seeing Karl Urban's Billy Butcher and Jack Quaid's Hughie Campbell get into the most disgusting and bloody situations yet, topped with a heap of violence.

In fact, Aisha Tyler hyped up The Boys Season 2 in such ways with her own statement for the announcement, found below.

The Boys is one of the smartest, most irreverent, unapologetically badass shows streaming. I became a fan during Season 1 and this season I’m stoked to be flying fans into the heart of the show as host of Prime Rewind: Inside The Boys. Season 2 is bigger, badder, and more audacious than ever before, so join me after every episode as we dig through the rubble pile of our feelings. I promise, we’ll get through it like The Boys — dysfunctional, but together.

If it isn't dysfunctional (and doused in milk), then Homelander doesn't want anything to do with it. Check out the The Boys' Season 2 trailer below to see where the beloved maniac leader of The Seven is heading next.

The Boys thankfully has an entire season of episodes to bring to fans before we even have to worry about when Season 3 will arrive. Season 2 will debut its first three episodes on Amazon on Friday, September 4, with future episodes rolling out weekly. While waiting to see the chaotic debauchery, stay tuned to our 2020 Fall TV premiere schedule for all the other shows popping up on the small screen in the coming months.
