Is The Real Housewives Of New York City Actually Running Out Of Solid Storylines?

Another week has come and gone for The Real Housewives Of New York City, and the show has really gone to shit. I mean that literally, because for the second week in a row, another woman in the house succumbed to a poop accident during the trip to Mexico. While I completely understand that Bravo had to show us Ramona Singer pooped on the floor and didn't notice immediately, was there really no better storyline?

To be quite honest, it was the highlight of an episode that felt like one I'd seen before in Season 12 in other ways, as well. Ramona Singer decided to call out Dorinda Medley for having anger issues, Sonya Martin didn't want to be involved, Luann De Lesseps made sure she got out of Dodge before things got ugly, and Leah McSweeney was mad she was left out of the drama. The whole episode led up to a fancy event, and there was slight tension between all the women during it.

There are only a few more episodes to go of The Real Housewives Of New York City, so it was kind of shocking to see an episode that more or less flatlined on the drama in the final 15 minutes. The Mexican vacation, while filled with excrement, was a great time, and had some decent drama with Dorinda Medley going up against the rest of the women for her anger issues.

Now it seems like The Real Housewives Of New York City women are all on good terms, and things may just coast into the finale. I guess when you do reality television you can't always plan for something exciting to happen all the time, and to be quite honest, stuff between these women turns on a dime. This is a show where a vibrator ended up in leftover chicken towards the start of the season, and no one really talks about it anymore.

The Real Housewives Of New York City got a breath of fresh air with the introduction of Leah McSweeney, but I'm beginning to wonder if it can't benefit from an even bigger cast shakeup. Ramona Singer and Luann de Lesseps have been there since the very start, Sonja Morgan arrived in Season 3, and Dorinda Medley since Season 7. These women are icons in their own right, but have we seen all they have to offer in this dynamic?

I think back to how quickly the Real Housewives Of New York City fandom attached to Leah McSweeney, even though she came as a replacement for Bethenny Frankel. I'm not saying these legacy women need to be booted from the show or anything, but it may not hurt to make sure that they interact with some other people outside their little circle on camera more. Doing so may shake up the show a bit, and make sure future plots aren't quite so reliant on people pooping and getting huffy with each other.

The Real Housewives Of New York City airs on Bravo, Thursdays at 9:00 p.m. ET. Stick with CinemaBlend for all the latest happening with the franchise, and for more news in television and movies.
