Titans Confirms Three Huge Comic Book Favorites Are Coming To Season 3

titans evil season 2

Titans ramped up the comic book mayhem in Season 2, and though some fans might have been nervous that its future would get shut down over the pandemic and DC Universe's possible implosion, take comfort in knowing Season 3 is on the way. Not only that, but it's going to be a huge one for comic book fans, as revealed during Titans' DC FanDome panel.

For one, executive producer Greg Walker revealed that Kori's sister, dubbed Blackfire, will be joining the Titans team in a big way in Season 3, to the point where she's rooming with them at Wayne Manor. And that's definitely not the only big news coming from Titans' trip to Gotham City. Below, you can check out the three major comic characters that will join the fun next season, with the top one obviously not being a completely new addition.

red hood comic book

Red Hood

Comic fans love them some Red Hood, and not just because he's a formidable and unpredictable adversary for Batman, but because of his personal relationship with the Caped Crusader. After all, Red Hood is the villainous persona that Jason Todd takes on after vacating his role as Robin, as well as his role as a heroic vigilante. Titans viewers were hoping the TV show would go that route by having Curran Walters' Jason going off on his own to close out Season 2, and Greg Walker made it official during the DC FanDome panel. Here's what he had to say about it:

This season, we're going to bring up a new villain. If you've watched the show, you know that Jason Todd had a rough run, and he had a falling out with the Titans. It didn't end well, and the Titans, as they kind of reunited as a team, were absent one member at the end, who wrote away on a motorcycle and had a fallout. You know, there's that African proverb of something along the lines of, 'The child who is not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel its warmth.' That child comes back in the form of Red Hood.

Considering Jason Todd was often shown making situations worse, rather than better, his absence from the Titans team might not be the worst turn of events. However, Jason putting those efforts into causing chaos as Red Hood is not a good sign for the heroes, or Gotham City, or anywhere else, really. While he wasn't able to say much, Curran Walters reacted to the news during the panel, saying:

Yeah, I'm very excited, obviously. I feel some pressure but I'm ready to take it on 100%. So I'm very excited. I've been wanting this for a while now.

I can't wait to see how this all plays out, and how Red Hood will officially enter the picture. Will the team instantly know it's him? Will it be more of a mystery? Will the real Joker get introduced in order to kill Jason Todd? Season 3 needs to get here already.

jonathan crane the scarecrow comic book

Jonathan Crane / Scarecrow

For Titans' second season, the masterful Esai Morales stepped in and killed it (no pun intended) as the big bad villain Deathstroke, and fans can possibly expect a return to more demonic and visually terrifying evil when Season 3 arrives. That is, if the introduction of Jonathan Crane will be as weird and trippy as the character's live-action appearances have been in other projects such as Batman Begins and Christopher Nolan's other films, and in the Gotham TV series.

Unfortunately, EP Greg Walker didn't have much to offer by way of background information about Jonathan Crane's impending introduction to the Titans-verse for Season 3. He did at least mention Scarecrow's name during his announcement, as opposed to only mentioning his alter ego and keeping fans guessing about whether the villainous turn would happen or not. Hopefully it won't be long before we get some casting news.

Commissioner Barbara Gordon (Likely As Oracle?)

Speaking of casting, rumors of Barbara Gordon's inclusion for Titans Season 3 first surfaced back in January in the form of a casting call describing a character that sounded a lot like Barbara Gordon, and was also mentioned a few months later by one of the show's cinematographers. However, considering all that's happened in the world in 2020, it wouldn't have been out of the ordinary for Titans' plans to have changed a little. Put down that fear toxin, though, because Greg Walker confirmed we'll get to see Babs making her debut in the third season, and she'll already be in a position of power. In Walker's words:

We have another classic character in the canon named Barbara Gordon – Commissioner Barbara Gordon. We've got the second gen coming up. There was originally Batman and Jim Gordon, and now we have Nightwing and Barbara Gordon trying to kind of deal with the mistakes of their parents, and it turns out to be a lot more difficult than anybody thought.

It doesn't sound like we'll be seeing Barbara suiting up as Batgirl for Titans, given her Commissioner status, but it's also not yet known if Batgirl existed within the show's canon. But let's not forget that Barbara did have another vigilante alias, Oracle, which she embraced after being paralyzed by The Joker during the Killing Joke arc. The initial casting notice did call for wheelchair-using actors, so it's definitely possible we'll get a Batgirl-into-Oracle storyline in Season 3 as Nightwing's presence gets more fully established.

It's still not clear when Titans will go into production for Season 3, but stay tuned to CinemaBlend for more updates as they are revealed. And in the meantime, our 2020 Fall TV schedule runs down everything that's on the horizon for audiences.
