What 90 Day Fiance Couples Can Learn From Angela Deem

Angela Deem 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After? TLC

Warning! The following contains spoilers for the 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? episode "Public Displays Of Contention." Read at your own risk.

90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? isn't often about couples that are in a good place in their relationships; in fact, you could argue that's rarely the case for any show across the franchise. Situations can really spin out of hand on this particular spinoff, however, and time and time again we have seen couples going to war over hidden secrets, blatant lies, and unpredictable expectations.

It's literally something every couple has faced in Season 5. For example: Tania Maduro and Syngin Colchester have each reckoned with the other person not being who they thought, Kalani Faagata and Asuelu Pulaa have gone to war over his family's demand for money, and Larissa Dos Santos Lima basically asked Eric Nichols to take out loans for plastic surgery when she was daring him to call the cops on her only a couple of episodes before. Then there's the whole mess with Libby Potthast and Andrei Castravet, but I've talked about those issues at length elsewhere.

Now, I should say that Angela Deem and Michael Ilesanmi are far from perfect in regards to their own personal troubles, but they have a 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? X-factor. Namely, that Angela is never one to hide things from Michael, nor one to say anything beyond what she's thinking. Angela can certainly be over the top, like calling off their wedding at least once a day, but it's mainly because she's unapologetically honest about what she expects from Michael.

Angela Deem has made it clear she will not be a homemaker for her husband, and she may not be able to have children. Combine that with the notion that she will not tolerate Michael taking another wife (standard Nigerian custom) shows just how clear-minded she's been from the onset of their relationship. The 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? star has taken this approach to such an extreme that she has pointedly made it known to Michael's family just how their marriage will go, despite Michael's attempts to offer everyone else lip service to say they will lead a traditional Nigerian relationship.

Angela may be overbearing, tough on Michael, and perhaps a bit unfair at times, but her abundant honesty has helped nip a lot of future problems in the bud that current 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? couples have been dealing with all season long. The difference is that other couples are already married and working on their issues after the fact, and Angela is getting those details out of the way before any wedding bells happen with Michael.

Obviously, this isn't really something the current couples can help, but for anyone currently hoping to be on 90 Day Fiancé, learn a thing or two from Angela Deem. Sure, you may not come off as the most stable and/or accommodating person to audiences, or even your lover, but hey, this is supposed to be a lasting relationship. Couples in this franchise fall apart on a semi-regular basis, so by following Angela's playbook, there's a chance of hitting that goal of being one of the couples in the promised land doing commentary on 90 Day Fiancé: Pillow Talk.

90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? airs on TLC Sundays at 8:00 p.m. ET. Continue to stick with CinemaBlend for updates on the franchise, and for the latest news happening in television and movies.
