DC’s Doom Patrol Renewed For Season 3 With A Big Change

Doom Patrol Season 2 cast

While the future of the DC Universe streaming service has been a bit uncertain as of late, things are looking bright for its original programming as most of the shows will be returning for new seasons. Well, now it would appear that you can add another series to the bunch, as Doom Patrol has officially been renewed for Season 3. The third season is set to premiere in 2021, but things are going to be somewhat different when the unconventional family of superheroes returns for the next season.

Doom Patrol Season 3 is set to stream exclusively on HBO Max in 2021. This comes after the show’s second season was streamed on both HBO Max and DC Universe. The move makes sense considering that many of DC Universe’s shows are moving to new homes. For instance, Titans is also set to move to HBO Max, while Stargirl is moving exclusively to The CW.

DC CCO Jim Lee previously discussed the changes that were being made for DC Universe, including the migration of shows to other places. This news now solidifies the new direction for the service.

In a statement, HBO Max Head of Original Content, Sarah Aubrey expressed her excitement about the third season coming exclusively to the growing streamer:

Doom Patrol came to HBO Max with an already deep and passionate fan base and has risen to the top as one of the most watched Max Originals on the platform. The series sits well in our portfolio and we are glad to greenlight a third season to continue this distinctive style of storytelling that resonates so well with critics and fans alike.

It may be hard for some to see the series, along with other content, leave its original home at DC Universe, but HBO Max seems to be a prime place for the show and its growing fanbase. With HBO Max growing in viewership, it may serve as a golden opportunity for Doom Patrol get more eyes and ultimately row its fanbase.

Doom Patrol is coming off of a critically acclaimed second season during which the team made efforts to prolong the Chief’s life so that he could continue to care for his daughter, Dorothy. The result was a madcap and emotional story that, for some, was even better than the first season. And you can bet fans still have plenty of questions and theories after that jaw-dropping season finale.

At this point, it’s just great to know that fans can look forward to more adventures from the heroes. The series is only getting weirder by the season, so it’s safe to assume that the producers won’t stray from even more madness, which is an incredibly exciting prospect.

And if you’ve yet to see Doom Patrol, the first two seasons are available to stream on HBO Max and DC Universe.
