Why Daredevil Fans Think Hulu Is A Better Home For The Show Than FX Or Disney+

Daredevil Netflix

As Marvel’s Daredevil nears the two-year anniversary of its cancellation, talks are restarting among fans about the chances of the acclaimed Netflix series getting a revival on another platform. The #SaveDaredevil campaign is still holding out hope that Disney will get the series back into production, though some would prefer Hulu to be the platform where it happens.

The news comes from the second episode of #TalkDaredevil, in which fans of the series discussed why the Charlie Cox-led series is best suited for the streaming platform as opposed to a network like FX, despite FX CEO John Landgraf dropping some interesting comments about Marvel properties. #TalkDaredevil host Christine isn't on board, and she explained why:

It goes back to Hulu, out of all the network brands, being its the best fit for the rating of the show and has a broader range of content than say FX, which I find to be a lot more niche.

It is true that Hulu offers a wider variety of content than FX, though that’s not to say FX has never produced a superhero series. Noah Hawley’s X-Men-based series Legion ran for three seasons there, and while it never received stellar viewership numbers, it did receive a solid amount of critical acclaim. Given Daredevil’s name recognition from its Netflix run, it’s possible that Disney could benefit greatly by putting a revival on FX.

Having said that, it does seem like Disney is releasing a majority of its live-action TV for Marvel on Hulu or Disney+. A Daredevil audience may already be present on one of those streaming services, though it seems fairly obvious to #TalkDaredevil's Christine why Disney+ wouldn't be a good fit for the revival. She explained:

Disney+ again, to me, it’s just not going to be the right fit because it has to adhere to that PG-13 ceiling. I’m just looking at, like historically over this past year or so, seeing projects get paused or shut down at Disney+ because they were too ‘mature’ or they were moved over to Hulu because of ratings. I’m thinking about Love Victor and High Fidelity. There is a standard that they’re trying to maintain at Disney+ and that’s why for me it’s just never going to be the right fit for a revival of the Daredevil show that we know and love.

Whether the Daredevil these fans know and love will ever return is still very much up in the air. Though Disney has retained the rights to the characters, Disney seems more concerned with developing series for characters meant to be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Shows not directly tied to the larger MCU been cancelled, so it's possible Disney may reboot the character entirely. There hasn't been any official word one way or the other, so no reason for anyone to hold out optimism at this point that this story could pick up someday in the future.

Daredevil Seasons 1-3 are currently available to stream on Netflix. Continue to stick with CinemaBlend for more on what future plans, if any, exist for this series, and for the latest news happening in television and movies.
