Ron Cephas Jones Responds After He And Daughter And Jasmine Cephas-Jones Made Emmy's History

Ron Cephas Jones as William "Shakespeare" Hill on This is Us

The Primetime Emmy Awards will finally arrive tonight, albeit in a virtual format but, over the past several days, the Creative Emmy Awards have been have going in full force. With this, a number of stars (in front of and behind the camera) have been taken home the gold statues. And this year, a bit of Emmy history was made, as both This is Us’ Ron Cephas Jones and daughter Jasmine Cephas Jones both snagged wins. With this, the two are the first father-daughter duo to win awards during the same Emmys presentation. Now, the elder Cephas Jones has responded to the major wins.

Ron Cephas Jones took home his second win for Outstanding Actor in A Drama series for his role as William “Shakespeare” Hill on This is Us. Meanwhile, Jasmine Cephas Jones scored a win for Outstanding Actress in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series for playing Tyisha in Quibi’s #FreeRayshawn.

Following his win, Ron Cephas Jones spoke in the Emmys press room (via EW), but he didn’t speak much about himself. He mostly expressed pride in seeing his daughter move up and progress in her career:

As a parent, that’s the most fulfilling [thing] I could ever feel. I mean, winning another Emmy is icing on the cake, but to see my daughter progress and move into this place where she’s earned an Emmy, it's beyond words.

Jasmine Cephas Jones has since taken to social media to react to the wins, and the up-and-coming actress summed things up perfectly:

One can only imagine how both actors are feeling after accomplishing the historic feat. Winning an award is one thing, but being able to win one alongside a loved one. It’s a great sight to see, and the love the two are showing each other is beautiful.

Both actors have been putting in some serious work, especially over the past several years. Aside from This is Us, Ron Cephas Jones has also appeared on TV shows like Mr. Robot, The Get Down and Luke Cage. He’s garnered some solid film roles as well.

Meanwhile, Jasmine Cephas Jones made a serious dent in pop culture with her role in the hit Broadway musical Hamilton, in which she played the dual role of Peggy Schuyler and Marian Reynolds. She also starred in the HBO miniseries Mrs. Fletcher and is set to appear in Honest Thief, starring Liam Neeson.

Both Ron Cephas Jones and Jasmine Cephas Jones are sure to enjoy their awards for a while, but it’s only a matter of time before they roll up their sleeves and dive back into their work. And we’ll definitely be eager to see what they do next.

The Primetime Emmy Awards air tonight at 8 p.m. ET on ABC, so be sure to stay tuned at CinemaBlend to see who takes home the top prizes.
