CBS had the first network show to start filming again after the coronavirus pandemic led to an industry-wide halt on production. The Eye Network’s daytime drama, The Bold and The Beautiful, was the show to accomplish that feat. Cut to October, and a CBS comedy has had to briefly pause production after a positive COVID-19 test result. Yes, Young Sheldon had to halt filming, and here's what happened.

Deadline reports that CBS’ top comedy, Young Sheldon, had to press pause on filming Friday, October 9. The Big Bang Theory spinoff, which centers on a consciously less “annoying” Sheldon Cooper, had to pump the breaks after a production member tested positive for COVID-19. The development comes less than a month into Young Sheldon beginning production on its fourth season. Filming had commenced on September 22.

There is some good news, though. The production pause is only expected to last through the weekend, as filming on Sheldon’s younger years is set to reconvene on Monday (October 12). The cast and crew were just about to start work on the third episode of the season before things shut down, and it doesn't appear that much progress was made before things we shut down.

CBS renewed the comedy up until Season 4 back in early 2019 as part of a mega-renewal. As for the health of the individual who tested positive for COVID-19, they are reportedly asymptomatic and self-isolating.

Young Sheldon is far from the only show dealing with COVID-19 testing. Over at Netflix, production on Vikings: Valhalla also had to pause production due to several people briefly falsely testing positive. Due to the false results, production has already resumed on the Vikings spinoff. “Better safe than sorry.” Like its network and streaming counterparts, CBS has remained vigilant with their COVID-19 protocols as the industry has slowly begun to return to production. In The Bold and The Beautiful’s case, they utilized some inanimate stand-ins for filming certain scenes.

Luckily, being a family-oriented show, Young Sheldon shouldn't have to worry about that. While ratings for the CBS comedy may have dropped following the conclusion of The Big Bang Theory, there are many fans anxious for the show’s return. Last season was filled with great moments, such as country music mega-star, Reba McEntire guest starring as the ex-wife of Craig T. Nelson’s Dale Ballard.

It will be intriguing to learn what surprises the new season of Young Sheldon has in store to top that. The spinoff has been keeping viewers on their toes as its showrunner acknowledged their willingness to break the continuity set up in The Big Bang Theory. What that means for the series moving forward is anyone’s guess at this point, so stay tuned.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Young Sheldon's Season 4 premiere is still up in the air. In the meantime, the CBS comedy is available to stream on HBO Max along with its parent series, The Big Bang Theory. Stay tuned to learn when Season 4 will premiere on CBS. You can also watch this fall’s premieres as you anticipate its return.
