Have Mercy, John Stamos' New Disney+ Show Suspends Production For Second Time

John Stamos’ upcoming series Big Shot has not had the greatest luck. The Full House star was filming Season 1 of the Disney+ series, but production came to a screeching halt recently after someone tested positive for COVID-19. The incident marks the second time that filming had to be suspended on Big Shot after a positive COVID test.

Big Shot, the sports dramedy ordered by Disney+, had to suspend filming due to someone testing positive for COVID-19. Per Deadline, the affected individual was in Zone 1, which means that it could have been an actor who tested positive. The decision to suspend production was made last Thursday evening and the shutdown will continue through the holidays. The series isn't expected to return to filming until January.

The individual was reportedly tested several times during the week, as is required. However, the tests all came back negative until Thursday evening, when the positive result was revealed. Filming had already wrapped at the time, so Big Shot effectively went into shutdown on Friday, December 11. Anyone who may have had direct contact with the person was asked to quarantine for two weeks.

Big Shot was very close to completing filming on its penultimate Season 1 episode, but it sounds like the series plans to pick back up with filming that particular scene and its season finale when it resumes production in January. As it turns out, this isn’t the first time that Big Shot has had to suspend filming due to a positive COVID test. However, the first halt that occurred in November turned out to be a false positive. That’s a relief, at least. Here’s hoping that the person who tested positive recently will be alright.

While several TV productions are up and running after facing months of shutdowns, the situation is still precarious considering the ongoing pandemic. COVID-19 restrictions and protocols — mask-wearing, required testing, and social distancing, among several other safety guidelines — have been implemented on sets.

However, that hasn’t prevented actors and crew members from receiving positive diagnoses sometimes, forcing a myriad of productions to pause filming and initiate contact tracing. Big Shot isn’t the first show to pause production and likely won’t be the last.

In addition to John Stamos, the Disney+ series also stars Community alum Yvette Nicole Brown, Vikings and Glee star Jessalyn Gilsig, Richard Robichaux, Sophia Mitri Schloss, Tiana Le, and many more. Big Shot Season 1 will consist of ten episodes and follows Stamos’ Marvyn, a hotheaded basketball coach who takes a job at an all-girls private school after being fired.
