Ashley Tisdale may always be High School Musical’s Sharpay Evans to us, but the 35-year-old mom-to-be doesn’t necessarily spend her days reminiscing, singing “Bop To The Top”, or doing that hilariously menacing vocal warm up that Disney Channel always slapped on its commercials. The actress, singer, and brand ambassador even waited years before showing her husband Christopher French her most iconic role.

Ashley Tisdale tied the knot with the composer in 2014 after they started dating in 2012 and they only recently got to popping in High School Musical. Why? Here’s how Tisdale explained it to People:

Personally, I don't watch my own stuff. Also, my husband has hardly seen anything that I'm in. I think I just showed him High School Musical this year, and we've been married six years at this point. And that wasn't even the full movie. I'm not someone who likes to watch myself. I'm not going to be like, 'Don't watch it.' I just don't know if that's something... I look completely different. It feels like a different lifetime!

I mean to be fair, many of us don’t go around showing our partners our yearbooks every chance we get and I’d imagine being on Disney Channel has to be somewhat similar to that. There are plenty of actors who make a conscious effort not to see themselves in their work, and Ashley Tisdale is apparently one of them. The actress, who is currently pregnant with her first child due to be born this spring, also said this:

Yeah, I don't see myself watching myself with my child. That's just not who I am.

She made the choice when her 7-year-old niece decided to watch it recently and she apparently didn’t even recognize Ashley Tisdale from her 20-year-old self in the movie. All three of the High School Musical movies are available on Disney+ along with her 2011 spinoff Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure. High School Musical just turned 15 years old last month, and much of the cast and crew have reflected on the journey. The movie’s casting director remembers that Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron hit it off right away in the chemistry department, leading up to their electric on-screen performance and years of dating. Lucas Grabeel shed some light on the Ryan & Chad theories from High School Musical 2 and Monique Coleman opened up about the unfortunate reason Taylor would always wear headbands.

Much of the High School Musical cast seem to remain a family, especially in terms of Ashley Tisdale and Vanessa Hudgens, who was a bridesmaid at her 2014 wedding. These days, a whole new generation is getting a chance to experience the Disney franchise streaming on Disney+ and since the service revived it with a TV show starring “drivers license” singer Olivia Rodrigo.
