Marvel's Falcon And The Winter Soldier Super Bowl Trailer Features Plenty Of Action And A New 'Captain America'

Marvel hype is already hitting high points in 2021 with WandaVision on Disney+, but the fandom got a little something extra to celebrate during the Super Bowl with the arrival of the first full-length trailer for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The series hopes to finally answer the question of which of the two will take on the mantle of Captain America left behind by Steve Rogers, and while there were no definitive answers on how that shakes out – obviously – fans did get to see a lot of exciting stuff.

The full trailer, which wasn't even shown in its entirety during the Super Bowl, features dysfunction between the two heroes, it brought Emily VanCamp's Sharon Carter in on the action, and it showed off Daniel Brühl's angry Baron Zemo doing some plotting. We also see a shot of "Captain America" jogging out onto a football field, though we're not sure who was under the mask. Is this just some guy posing as a mascot for a football team, or is this possibly Wyatt Russell's John Walker suited up as the new Cap? We didn't get to see a face, to be sure, so for now, either is possible.

One person who wasn't featured in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier trailer was Don Cheadle, who did confirm recently he will appear as James Rhodes, also known as War Machine. One has to wonder what role he'll play in the adventure, with Sam and Bucky looking to take on some sinister plot of the terrorist group that I'm assuming is masterminded by Baron Zemo. Honestly, the only thing we can say for sure is that this series is action-packed and that it's a good time to be a fan of Marvel.

Anthony Mackie previously described Falcon and the Winter Soldier as "revolutionary" and teased it would change the way we look at cinema. I have trouble denying that following that action-packed trailer, though will say that WandaVision is setting an increasingly high bar for the series to climb over, as far as the narrative is concerned.

If there's one advantage the show may have judging from this trailer, the dynamic between Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan is as good as it's ever been. I can't wait to see these two throw more verbal jabs at each other while kicking villains' asses, hopefully with Sam Wilson taking full control of Captain America's shield by the time the finale wraps up.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is expected to arrive on Disney+ March 19th. The series has a lot of potential to answer a lot of lingering questions we've had about the MCU after Avengers: Endgame, and possibly why Marvel is reportedly talking to Chris Evans about returning to play Captain America. For more on that, be sure to read up on the situation, as well as Chris Evans' response to it here.
