Would Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson Ever Run For President? He Has Some Thoughts

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson

The idea of celebrities or media figures becoming the U.S. president isn't a new concept in American politics. The latest celebrity to play with the idea was Young Rock producer Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. This came up in the opening scene of the NBC sitcom inspired by his real life. After teasing the idea on the NBC sitcom, Johnson shared his thoughts on a potential presidential run.

Dwayne Johnson has been one of several celebrities teasing a presidential run in recent years. He teased a run for the highest office in the land in 2017, shortly after President Donald Trump’s presidential victory. A huge part of his sitcom Young Rock is the actor announcing his run for the U.S. presidency in 2032. Johnson recently spoke with USA Today about the NBC sitcom. He touched on whether he would make a presidential run in the future.

I would consider a presidential run in the future if that's what the people wanted. Truly I mean that, and I'm not flippant in any way with my answer. That would be up to the people...So I would wait, and I would listen. I would have my finger on the pulse, my ear to the ground.

Dwayne Johnson’s words left a “will he or won’t he” approach to possibly running for the office of the U.S. president. If he did decide to run, the actor does have the commanding personality and charisma needed to occupy the office. The only question would be where his policies and views on certain topics would be. He wouldn’t be the first media personality to run (and win) the U.S. presidency after Donald Trump in 2016 and Ronald Reagan in 1980.

Not much is known about Dwayne Johnson’s political affiliations. In the past, he spoke at both the Democratic and Republican National Convention. The actor even endorsed former President Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012 as well as endorsing President Joe Biden in 2020.

A possible presidential run has been one of several subjects Dwayne Johnson has spoken about concerning Young Rock. He recently spoke on how his father Rocky Johnson’s death affected his thought of legacy. His father’s journey as a pro-wrestler is chronicled in the NBC sitcom. The actor even spoke on getting his first car as well as being evicted during his teenage years. Johnson even told another story about his adolescence in a Twitter post.

Whether or not Dwayne Johnson makes a presidential run is up to him. But the actor has given a glimpse into his personal life such as celebrating the holidays with his daughters or doing his youngest daughter’s hair. So, his image on social media and in public mixes his love for family along with highlighting his career and his insane workout regimen. At this point in his career, Johnson checks many of the necessary boxes for a potential presidential run in the future. Only time will tell if he would be a fit for the U.S. presidency in the next decade or so.
