Christopher Meloni’s Golden Globes Welcome Proved NBC’s Brilliance In Bringing Him Back For Law And Order: Organized Crime

If you needed the perfect promotional material for NBC’s Law & Order: Organized Crime, you’d only need the above clip of actor Christopher Meloni’s Golden Globes entrance to present the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Miniseries, or TV Movie. His mere presence was rewarded with an uproarious applause from the New York first responders and healthcare workers in the crowd. All you’d have to say is “Stabler’s Back,” play that clip, and then cut to the premiere date info. The internet is certainly proving the case for NBC’s brilliance in bringing him back, too.

This year's Golden Globes ceremony was telecast from two venues, and both were filled with first responders from both New York City and Los Angeles. While it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to tell you that any New York crowd would be over the moon for a Law & Order alum to grace their room, the response was even greater than anyone probably would have ever expected. Christopher Meloni got a standing ovation with tons of cheers in the room itself, which was legitimately more energetic than responses to some award-winners. But on top of that visceral response, Twitter had a lot of positive reactions pouring in that only heightened the hype.

I mean, that entrance was one hell of a moment, wasn’t it? The huge wave of approval from New York’s first responders possibly even overrode any sort of pre-planned sentiments that Meloni was supposed to deliver in the moment. Even he looked surprised by the reaction, and he jumped ahead from celebrating right into presenting the nominees, with Gillian Anderson winning out for her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher in The Crown. But he could have mistakenly given the award to La La Land and it probably would have gone unnoticed amidst all the cheers, and people were blowing up social media with these sorts of reactions:

Now, if you look real hard on Twitter, you can see tons of very thirsty reactions to Law & Order: Organized Crime’s best living justification for existing. There are a lot of Christopher Meloni stans out there, and it’s hard to blame them, but we’ll keep things friendly and platonic here by staying out of any thirst traps, or thirst destinations in this case. Which leads us to a final reaction, though everyone can search out the Meloni love letters that are flooding the internet once this story is over.

Some think that Law & Order: Organized Crime could start up the spin-off machine in earnest at Wolf Productions yet again, giving us even more New York crimefighting than what's already planned. And the rewarding response to see Law & Order SVU’s prodigal son return after leaving so long ago is probably spawning such thoughts at this current moment. No matter what happens after this point, the love shown to Christopher Meloni – and, by extension Law & Order: Organized Crime – is quite astounding.

April 1st marks the return of Elliot Stabler, when Law & Order: Organized Crime debuts on NBC, at 10 PM ET, right after that night’s episode of Law & Order: Special Victim’s Unit. Can you imagine what social media will be like when Elliot and Olivia reunite?
