How Percy Jackson's Creator Wants The TV Show To Be Like WandaVision And The Mandalorian

When Disney announced that a Percy Jackson TV series was headed to Disney+, many fans of the source material were both excited and skeptical about how it will turn out. Percy Jackson’s author, Rick Riordan, is giving fans an update on the Disney+ series.

On his official website, Rick Riordan told fans that they are starting to plan the next steps so they can give their partners at the studio and streaming service a good comprehensive picture of what the show will require. Riordan mentioned that he hopes it’ll be like some of Disney+’s other hit shows in a certain way. Riordan explained:

What will the budget look like? (Hint: Good TV ain’t cheap. Quality-wise, this has to stand toe-to-toe with Disney+ hits like WandaVision and Mandalorian.)

Although Rick Riordan couldn’t say much about the planning phase with the series still not getting an official green light, he was very optimistic on the project moving forward. Riordan said:

There is a lot of excitement and momentum, and it really helps that Disney understands just how wonderful and massive a fanbase Percy Jackson has, so thank you all for that!

News of a streaming series based on the Percy Jackson books was first announced last year, a full decade since The Lightning Thief was adapted for a 2010 film, and seven years since Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters in 2013. Rick Riordan broke the news to fans on Twitter, saying that although they couldn’t say much more about it, they were very excited about the idea of a live-action series of the highest quality, following the storyline of the original Percy Jackson five-book series and that he would be involved every step of the way.

Then October of last year, Rick Riordan gave fans an update on the series, confirming it would be live-action television and they were writing the script for the pilot at that time. He was again optimistic, and with the great team he hoped that they were going to have a “super run” on the show.

The Percy Jackson novels, also known as Percy Jackson & the Olympians, is a series of fantasy adventure novels that include The Lightning Thief (2005), The Sea of Monsters (2006), The Titan’s Curse (2007), The Battle of the Labryinth (2008) and The Last Olympian (2009). When The Lightning Thief was adapted into a film, it was a commercial success but because of major deviations from the books, the film received mixed reviews from fans around the world.

There is no due date yet on the Percy Jackson series as it is still in development and not yet greenlit by Disney, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if Disney announces that news in the near future due to the popularity of the franchise.
