Oscar Issac Is Getting In The Moon Knight Headspace With Marvel, And We're Pumped

Dune Oscar Isaac as Duke Leto Atreides

Last October, Marvel fans were delivered some fantastic news. In the wake of the announcement that Disney+ was developing a new original series based around the hero Moon Knight, it was revealed that Oscar Isaac had entered negotiations to play the lead role. At this point that feels like it was forever ago, but only now do we have official confirmation of the casting, and it appears that Isaac is getting into the character's headspace.

More than half-a-year since the reports about Oscar Isaac and Moon Knight came out, the official Marvel Studios Twitter account has put up their first post linking the star and the costumed vigilante, and you can check it out below:

This, of course, won't be the first time that Oscar Isaac has played a character from Marvel Comics – though it wasn't in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and we're keeping our fingers tightly crossed that this next venture will be far more successful. In 2016 the actor played the titular villain in Bryan Singer's X-Men: Apocalypse, but it wasn't a portrayal that was widely accepted by either critics or audiences (it was less about his performance, and more about the presentation and story). Like Chris Evans or Michael B. Jordan before him, however, Isaac has a chance at some comic book adaptation redemption with Moon Knight, and are hopes are high that it will pay off.

One of many upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe Disney+ originals, Moon Knight is being shepherded by the creator of Netflix's Umbrella Academy, Jeremy Slater, and the series is being planned for release in 2022 (an exact release date has not yet been revealed). The "We are Moon Knight" caption in the social media post above is a reference to the fact that the central hero in the narrative, Marc Spector, is a character with Dissociative Identity Disorder. It has been reported that Ethan Hawke will star in the show opposite Oscar Isaac as the central antagonist, but it has not yet been announced what specific role he will be playing.

Production on Moon Knight is expected to begin soon, and in the last few months Oscar Isaac has been preparing for the role (albeit while not confirming the reason for the preparation). Back in March he posted a video on Instagram showing off his developing fight skills, and it definitely looks like he will be kicking a whole lot of ass as a Marvel Cinematic Universe hero:
