Supernatural, which is heading into its 3rd season, revolves around brothers Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles). One night in 1983, Sam and Dean’s mother was killed by a demon in Sam’s nursery. This event changed the lives of Sam, Dean, and their father John (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) forever. Fueled by a desire to kill the demon that murdered their mother, the three Winchester men traveled the back roads of America (in their awesome ‘69 Chevy Impala, known to fans as Metallicar) killing any and all evil beings they cross paths with.

At the end of season 1, Sam and Dean finally came face-to-face with the demon that killed their mother, although they were unsuccessful in killing it. After a horrific car accident caused by a demon, Dean clung to life and it was his father, John who was able to save him by sacrificing himself to the demon (but not before telling Dean that, should he not be able to save his brother - who was one of the “special children” the demon needed for his army - Dean would have to kill him).

Dean wrestled with guilt over his father’s death and the fear that he would have to kill his brother, throughout season the second season. In the season 2 finale, Sam was killed by another “special child” and Dean was forced to make a similar deal with a demon that his father made in order to bring Sam back. In exchange for Sam’s life, Dean must sell his soul to the demon and only be granted one year to live. Though the brothers did finally manage to kill the demon that murdered their mom, they also released hundreds of demons onto the Earth in the process.<

In season 3, the boys will brace themselves for a coming war, as they now have to track down the hundreds of demons who escaped from hell in the season finale. Dean will also deal with the ramifications of the deal he made and Sam will try to find a way to get Dean out of the deal. Finally, two new female characters will be added to the show, much to the disdain of fangirls everywhere. Ruby, played by Katie Cassidy (daughter of David Cassidy) will play Ruby, a fellow demon hunter. Lauren Cohan will play Bela, a mercenary who discovers that there is a lot of money to be made in the supernatural world.

I can’t get enough of Supernatural! Sure, it’s not The Sopranos or Grey’s Anatomy, but that’s ok. It doesn’t have to be. Supernatural, in my opinion, is just a really fun show to watch. For me, having been a fan of Buffy and Angel for years, watching Supernatual fills the void left by those shows. It’s obviously not the most realistic of shows, but that’s ok, too. I live real life everyday, I don’t need to watch it on television, too.

So, for those of you who don’t watch it but were fans of Buffy or Angel or Charmed or The X-Files, check out Supernatural. And for those of you who don’t want and weren’t fans of those other supernatural-like shows, I suggest you watch an episode anyway. There really is something for everyone - action, comedy, drama, and sometimes a little romance (although, thankfully, no annoying love triangles!). Give it a chance. I bet you’ll like it.
