Showtime Greenlights United States Of Tara

I’ve been toying with the idea of getting Showtime for a while now. I’ve heard enough great things about Dexter and Weeds to consider shelling out the money to add the channel and now it looks like there might be one more reason to subscribe. Showtime has officially picked up The United States of Tara, a new series written by Juno screenwriter, Diablo Cody.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the single-camera comedy, which is being put together by DreamWorks TV and Steven Spieldberg, centers Tara, a wife and mother with dissociative identity disorder. Toni Collette signed on to play Tara last fall and the Reporter says John Corbett (Sex and the City, My Big Fat Greek Wedding) will co-star as Tara’s husband.

Showtime has greenlighted twelve 30-minute episodes, which includes the pilot. No decision has been made as to when the series would air or what show it would be paired with but production is expected to begin this summer.
