Michael Gambon Joins HBO's Luck

Who’d will in a battle of wills, Michael Gambon or Dustin Hoffman? I have no idea, however from this latest bit of news, it seems the two actors will be pit against one another in their roles in HBO’s upcoming new series Luck.

(I think the outcome of the duel would all depend on whether or not there’s magic involved… or blackjack.)

According to Deadline, veteran British actor Michael Gambon will be making his U.S. TV series debut with a recurring role in HBO’s Luck. The series is set to star Dustin Hoffman and will center on horse racing. Gambon’s character, which has yet to be named, is described as “a nemesis or worthy adversary for Hoffman’s Ace Bernstein.” Gambon’s acting credits go back decades, however fans of the Harry Potter films will recognize him as Dumbledore (from all but the first two films).

Also cast in a recurring role for Luck is Patrick J. Adams, who is set to play Nathan Israel, a man who works with Ace. Adams has appeared in a number of TV shows, including Lost, FlashForward, Raising the Bar and Lie to Me.

Luck should premiere sometime in 2011 on HBO.
