Lucy Punch Signed On To Star In FX's Powers

FX’s upcoming pilot Powers has its female lead. Word is, Lucy Punch (The Class) is signed on to play the role of Deena Pilgrim in the police procedural, which is based on a graphic novel by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming.

Powers follows two detectives in the Homicide department that specializes in cases involving people with super powers, which are apparently fairly common in their reality. According to Deadline, Lucy Punch has signed on to play Detective Deena Pilgrim. The British born actress played the role of Holly in CBS’ The Class. She was also in Dinner for Schmucks and can be seen in the upcoming film Bad Teacher. Charles Dutton has previously signed on to play Captain Cross, the head of the department.

On the subject of the pilot itself, I’m happy to see another network taking a chance on a graphic novel adaptation. I have a hard time following the narrative in comics and graphic novels, which I know is a shame as there are so many great stories being told in that format (or so I hear). A TV adaptation seems to be working out well for The Walking Dead. Hopefully the same will be the case for Powers.
