Charlyne Yi Will Join House, Won't Play Dean Of Medicine

I’ve been completely amped over the next announcement concerning House for the last couple of days. Ever since the departure of Lisa Edelstein, who played Dean of Medicine Lisa Cuddy, the already heard-of cast member who will fill her shoes has been kept mostly under wraps. Of course, there are theories everywhere, but no answers. So, when I noticed there was a House, M.D. announcement this morning, I obviously hoped I would find the new Dean of Medicine. Unfortunately, I just found Charlyne Yi.

Yi will bring her own brand of awkward to House as a series regular next season. The actress, most known for her small role in Knocked Up and the documentary she both wrote and produced, Paper Heart, has been dabbling in TV roles lately with spots on Miss Guided and Love Bites. Her gig on House will be her first extensive TV role, however.

According to Deadline, Charlyne Yi will join additional new cast member Odette Annable (nee Yustman) as a member of Dr. House’s diagnostics team at Princeton-Plainsboro.

The gig could be a career-opening spot for Yi, but it’s a good deal for Fox, too. The beauty of the diagnostics team is that people have come and gone over the years. If TV isn’t a good fit for the Judd Apatow-oriented actress, it will be easy for both parties to move on. I’m just hoping the House writers won’t give Yi any opportunity to laugh onscreen.

The best news? With this announcement out of the way, we are one step closer to learning about that new Dean of Medicine.
