Teen Choice 2011 Results And Ratings: Teens Love The CW And The Teen Choice Awards

While the celebrities most beloved by today’s teens are likely to be searching for a place to display an award shaped like a giant surfboard, the Teen Choice ratings are in. The event, which aired on Fox last night, didn’t win the night, but numbers are up for teen viewers. Meanwhile, The CW has cause to celebrate, having taken home more awards than any other network.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, more people wanted to watch a reality show about people who switch places with celebrities whose names they share, rather than tune in to see what the teens love on Fox. CBS’ Same Name took in 5.1 million viewers last neight, beating out The Teen Choice Awards. The award show slipped 27% from last year’s airing among the 18-49 demographic, bringing in 3.2 million viewers. On the bright side, THR says the show was up 8% among teens, making it Fox’s highest rated telecast of the summer among teens.

Considering its programming line-up and their targeted audience, if ever there’s an Awards Ceremony where The CW is going to come out on top, it’s Teen Choice. With Gossip Girl, The Vampire Diaries and Nikita to thank, the network took home nine surfboards. Next year, I expect The Secret Circle to make the nominees list, if not the winners list. Hart of Dixie and Ringer are also strong contenders to win favor among the under-twenties.

ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars didn’t do so bad either, earning three awards. MTV’s Jersey Shore won two, including “Choice TV: Male Reality,” which went to Pauly D.
