Saturday Night Live always goes through fits and starts, and the quality of an episode sometimes, or more often than not, can hinge on the quality of the host. Obviously, the better the host, the better the show, right? While not always the case, for the most part that logic seems to hold true, which is why this upcoming season seems so promising...and only more so now with today's guest host hire.
SNL has already lined up Alec Baldwin (with Radiohead) for the season premiere on September 24th, which sees Baldwin pass Steve Martin as the person who has hosted the most in the series' long history. For week two, they're bringing in Bridesmaids standout Melissa McCarthy for her first time hosting, and after catching her work this summer, I'm pretty excited for that one, too (with Lady Antebellum as the musical guest). Today they announced the host for a little later in the season: On December 17th, Jimmy Fallon will return to his alma matter and host the sketch show for our viewing pleasure.
'I've never forgotten where I came from," Fallon said in a press release. "That's why I'm so incredibly honored to be hosting the Saturday Night Times program December 17th on HGTV." Uh, I think he means Saturday Night Live but...well, you can't fault a comedian for making a joke. Joining him that evening as the musical guest will be Canadian crooner Michael Buble. Fallon also took to Twitter:
Should be a good time. I always loved Fallon on SNL because he could never hold character, and when he broke I always broke out laughing. Oh, and his Barry Gibb Talk Show skit is still one of my all-time favs, and was perhaps the first breakout SNL turn for Justin Timberlake. Saturday Night Live returns for its 37th Season on Sept. 24th on NBC.
