Alec Baldwin says he's done with acting. Well, once his 30 Rock contract is up in 2012, according to E! Online. In the meantime, he'll continue doing things like co-hosting the Oscars next year, and nabbing gobs and gobs of awards for his portrayal of Jack Donaghy on said 30 Rock. Assuming his contract is by season, that would have Baldwin walking after the show's sixth season.

It's certainly not inconceivable that 30 Rock could still be a thriving and viable show at that point for NBC. It certainly hasn't slowed down the rate of award accumulations in recent years, though blockbuster ratings have been a bit more elusive. Nevertheless, could this mean that the show essentially has a limited shelf-life now? Six seasons and we're out like Lost!

It's hard to imagine 30 Rock without Baldwin's wit and demeanor. He's the perfect counterpart for Tina Fey's Liz Lemon. Perhaps this is a pre-emptive contract negotiation, but it's also not the first time Baldwin has talked of hanging up his actor's hat. There've also been regular rumors that he wants to throw his hat into the political arena. I hear the Governator is on his last term in California. Or maybe he just knows the world is going to end in 2012 anyway, so what does it matter.
